as a drama, it's a very good and enjoyable film. natalie portman is superb as always, but she totally surprised me as anne boleyn. her last scene made me cry. but, if you're looking for history lessons, this movie is very inaccurate.

Fantastic drama and superb acting. Was surprised by the number of familiar faces. Portman's Boleyn is charismatic and intensely unlikeable, her finale was amongst the best acting I've seen from her. Don't look for accurate historical details in this though, it's pure fluff.

Sex and death in an interesting night-time tele sort of way.

- a good historical drama
- defect for me: the way they built Mary from a weak little girl who was always relegated to the background barely allowed me to create any feelings for her. other than that her final marriage to Stafford isn't even explained or contextualized, it just happens at the end of the movie!
- in fact the movie itself doesn't give all the context during the story, so if possible, it's good to already have a basic background on the whole story of this marriage between Henry and Anne
- but it's worth watching yes, the movie itself is super fun!
- NATALIE PORTMAN SIMPLY A GODDESS - one of my favorite actresses - every look she directed me to be completely immersed in the film, the seduction she delivers, the divine costume only made me admire her even more!! I love too much

In the end: Anne reaps what she sows. And Henry does as well, remaining without male heir. Mary finds happiness. And the family finds its way to power via Elizabeth - when there are very few left to actually savour that power. Could have done without the incest part, the setup of that scene and Anne's desperation seems contrived, even if Henry already messes around with Seymour.

Portman and Johannsen are great in this - overall, an amazing cast! Bana's a bit of a letdown as Henry, though.

Just one question remains: Was Mary's marriage to Carey every dissolved? I mean it must have since she married Redmayne's character in the end, but that must have come up when she was set up to seduce Henry, especially since that's such a plotpoint later on.

A powerful dramatic thriller, The Other Boleyn Girl is a brilliant period piece about a fascinating chapter of history that forever altered the course of England. Based on a novel, the story follows the Boleyn sisters (Anne and Mary) who are tasked with winning the favor of King Henry VIII during a time of political turmoil in the English court. Starring Natalie Portman, Scarlett Johansson, and Eric Bana, the cast is quite impressive and delivers excellent performances; especially Portman, who has incredible charisma. The writing is also remarkably good, particularly in building tension and intrigue. Additionally, the costumes are exceptionally well-done and are given exquisite detail. And the musical score is equally as ambitious, and brings a passion and grandeur to the film. The Other Boleyn Girl is extraordinarily captivating and artfully crafted.

The source material wasn't good but they still somehow managed to make something EVEN WORSE. There is an alternative reality in which Natalie Portman was given a good script and she's one of the best Anne Boleyns, up there with Genevieve Bujold and Natalie Dormer, but sadly in this reality she was given... this. Truly a pity.

A guide on how to easily lose your head for a king. ;) Such a cast, and somehow acting came out so shallow.
