To say that this is a jumbled mess of a film isn't to discredit the people who reconstructed the film from the remnants of footage left by Welles himself. After seeing the doc (They'll Love Me When I'm Dead) which details Welles' efforts to complete this film, it's clear that the finished product would be a bit of a mishmash anyway, and a pretentious one at that. Personally, I think the film would have bombed back in the 70's, so the fact that it wasn't finished until now isn't a big deal. Still, it is a fascinating, if not exactly enjoyable, watch. The actors try to make valiant sense of Welles' jumbled ideas, and commit themselves admirably. Should you have seen the doc (and you should before watching this), you will see the confusion from the actors, wondering what on earth Welles was trying to conceive. They trusted him, of course, as they recognised his talents. But for a man of big ideas, as well as stature, this was always destined to fail - a real oddity!

For those who don’t know, this is a movie that Citizen Kane’s Orson Welles co-wrote and directed in the 1970’s. It was essentially shelved until Netflix acquired the rights. It’s about a washed up and self destructive filmmaker who’s desperate for a comeback. I recommend it to anyone who’s looking for a good mind f$&k. It earns its “R” rating though.

“Shoot all the boys and girls. Shoot them dead.”

Yep, it lived up to the hype.

'The Other Side of the Wind' is brilliant. Pure madness, pure cinema! Orson Welles lost masterpiece sees the light of day in glory fashion. Surprised about the amount of nudity, but then again, I'm not complaining.

While the story is simple, but also feels personal for Welles. The archery party inside the artist home.

Some of the wildest editing I've ever seen. It's almost like there's cameras everywhere, even in scenes where I'm guessing we shouldn't witness or hear. Like reality is a movie in itself. It works because every reaction is key and makes sense for it to jump around. Unlike 'Catwoman'.

40 years in development with unique results.

Overall rating: "Goodnight".
