A small group of American soldiers battle against an overwhelming force of Taliban fighters while defending a badly positioned outpost located in a volley of mountains in Afghanistan.

Based on a true story, I found it shocking that this outpost is real. This is a better than average war movie. The cinematography was incredible and made the battles all the more intense and compelling. They may as well have targets on their back as they walk around this outpost. The Taliban can use them for target practice as they are so vulnerable. It displays the true horror they went through.

One thing that drags this movie down is the number of characters they try to fit in the story. I understand they are based on real characters, and all have a part to tell in this horrific battle, but in a film it just doesn't work out well. This means it lacks any character development and the script isn't anything special. I just couldn't really feel any emotional attachment to many of them. I have never been the biggest Scott Eastwood fan, but he was brilliant in the film and really understood his character. I really liked Orlando Blooms performance as the captain. The rest were amazing and convincing as soldiers, it's just too bad their characters didn't have much depth and was hard to connect with them.

It does have a slow build up that was let down by the average writing. The second half of the movie was just an all out war and it depicted the brutality of war really well. It deals with the trauma, the friendships between the men and just a matter of seconds can take all that away.

It does have its faults, but it certainly was intense and gritty. 6/10.
