I really enjoyed the majority of "The Pact". Even though I am not a fan of the jump scare, they are sprinkled throughout this movie but they're not of the cat-jumping-out-of-the-closet variety. They are generated by shadows and pictures that change. The director also holds some shots, building a grueling amount of tension. There isn't a lot of gore here, but there are one or two disturbingly bloody scenes.

The first 3/4 of this was really good. Caity Lotz made you care about her character and she looks quite a bit like a younger Gillian Anderson. It was also fun to see Johnny Rico again. Yes, Casper Van Dien plays a detective and it appears that he may be able to act just a little. The story is interesting and it is satisfying that other characters also see the horrors occurring. It's not just another recycled story about someone trying to convince everyone something awful is happening.

The problem, though, is with the final act. Its got a fair number of twists and turns but it was hard to figure out how something had been occurring for so many years without being discovered (I'm being vague, but I don't want to give anything away). Also, the very last moment is tacked on as a way to make you squirm in your seat and in no way has anything to do with the progression of any of the characters. It really was cheap and dumb to finish on that note.

I watched this film less than a month ago and I can't remember a single thing about it. Apparently I felt it was worth two stars at the time, but takeaway from the fact that I couldn't even remember it after re-watching the trailer what you will.

_Final rating:★★ - Had some things that appeal to me, but a poor finished product._
