I had always heard about this film...and that might be the best way to experience it. The concept is great. The movie is okay for about 2/3 of its running time and has a decent suspense scene or two in it...but overall...the final act is disappointing and not even interesting. It closes with a splat instead of a bang.

Another mid-70s political thriller benefitting from Pakula’s taut direction and Gordon Willis’s cinematography. Beatty isn’t asked to do much yet does a serviceable job with the material. Not a personal favorite but stacks up well alongside its contemporaries.

Slow paced but decent political thriller. Not as good as something like The Manchurian Candidate (both versions) or Three Days of the Condor, but engaging enough with a fine performance by Warren Beatty. **3.5/5**
