I'm an absolute sucker for "underlying meaning" horror movies where the true message trying to be conveyed is veiled in the usual horror movie tropes and set pieces. The Power goes completely the other way with the underlying message being delivered so heavy handedly it completely overtakes the horror element of the movie. It completely forgot everything to do with a ghost haunting this hospital wing by the twenty minute mark when it makes abundently clear that this is a message piece about sexual abuse and the voiceless female victims who are silenced and ignored by the powers that be. I enjoyed the setting of the 70s blackouts which is unique in this heavily saturated genre, but the clunky message delivery ruined everything this movie had going for it. A shame, because I think with some refinement and a more deft hand, this could have been much better than the final product we got.
