I welcome anything that Mel Gibson does, especially in this day of comic hero movies!

I think the story is very well written. Acting is first rate as well, Mel Gibson and Sean Penn are both fantastic.

Too bad that the lawsuit will dim the prospects of this movie most likely few people will see it and then they will be shocked on Oscar night. Typically, these biopics of sorts are dry and slow moving. This is not one of them. It's fast paced, good dialogue. Fair share of drama and English uptightness. Great movie!

Agree! Walked into the film with no expectations or knowledge of what it was about, except that it starred Gibson and Penn.<br /> Walked out of the film blown away. The script, the cast, the story... all beautifully portrayed.<br />
<br /> "Sir, we are watching with a concerned eye"<br /> "Watch then, and be amazed"<br />
<br /> Basically an allegory for Mel's triumphant return to the cinema

A great film that should nominate Sean Penn for an Oscar. A historical story that is quite interesting and well executed. A movie for cinema lovers as there are no special effects or high speed car chases. Just a great story with great actors.

Everything about this movie was done perfectly, from the amazing cast/acting to the masterful storytelling, and above all, just the story by itself is astonishingly satisfying.
Although I've watched this movie in late 2021, it is undoubtedly one of the best I've ever seen.

I thought this movie was brilliant! All the actors' performances helped give this story feeling. Especially Gibson, Penn, and Dormer ... their performances touched me. Without them, this story would've been just that ... a story. I'm really glad I decided to watch this tonight. Highly recommend!

A very compelling movie that had me quite tearful on several occasions. Wonderful acting from the entire cast.

Sean Penn is superb...worth watching just for his "Oscar" winning performance! Which it would've been if not for the squabble that Mel Gibson and Farhad Safinia had with Icon Productions.

Mostly excellent, with some wonderful performances on display as well as some fine filmaking behind the camera. On the downside, its a tad melodramatic at times and there are some narrative gaps. Still, it is worth a watch, if only to get a sense of the backstory of the book very few of us give due credit towards, the dictionary.

Inspired by a true story, The Professor and the Madman is a compelling historical drama. When Oxford appoints Professor James Murray to head the university’s project to create an English dictionary that chronicles every word in the English language he seeks help from the public and finds an unlikely friend and partner in an American doctor who’s been committed to an asylum. Starring Mel Gibson, Sean Penn, and Natalie Dormer, the film has a good cast that delivers strong performances. Additionally, the script is able to take a rather dry subject and make it quite interesting and heightens the political intrigue. However, there are some parts of the plot that are hard to follow. Yet despite a few problems, The Professor and the Madman is a fascinating look at a unique friendship that produced something extraordinary.
