This Christmas-themed short film from Italy is quite nice, but that's about it. In the end, I just didn't find the story, which takes place in a convent boarding school for girls during World War II, compelling enough. Furthermore, the film is dragged down a bit by some mediocre performances from the child actors. Director Alice Rohrwacher did have a few nice ideas, though. And the ironic humor worked at times, too. Therefore, I didn't want to judge the whole thing too negatively in the end.

[Disney+] A pleasant tale about the teachings of life beyond the imposed teachings; music against manipulation, desire against hypocrisy... The staging adorns with broken walls an orphanage with no financial resources that tries to maintain a certain presence, even though the war plays in the background and the radio news speak of victory in middle of defeat. And even if bad words are washed with soap (which is also scarce), thoughts are free and silent, but permanent surrounded by love, pain, curiosity, envy and, above all, that hunger that embraces in the form of suffocation.

Cute and with many interesting directorial choices, except for the weird freeze frames of the nun yelling. Although the acting felt a little off, the children managed to throw in a few spontaneous and surprisingly heartwarming moments.
