At first, it has a few stuff in common with "Corpus Christi" (Jan Komasa, 2019), the Polish Oscar-nominated film, but it continues as a forgettable thriller whose reflections on guilt and fate are superficial.

Not quite the movie i expected. Less a thriller and more a depiction of people in crisis, this is slow moving but occasionally compelling.

I really enjoyed this movie. It is very slow moving but I found the majority of the acting to be very engaging. The ending was a let down but the message of the story came through clearly.

Shea Whigham and Michael Shannon star in the indie crime drama The Quarry. The story follows a drifter who kills a preacher and takes over his live. Both Whigham and Shannon give strong performances, and director Scott Teems does an impressive job at creating an atmospheric and suspenseful tone. And the film explores some interesting issues concerning community, religion, and race. However, the pacing can drag a bit and some of the characters are underdeveloped. Yet despite a few weaknesses, The Quarry is a compelling character drama.

The movie has some decent acting, direction is pretty good also, and the story could be compelling, except it misses somehow. The depth of the characters is never explored, instead with very flat characters of what you can see could've been way way more in depth and interesting. I'm going to attribute the failure to the script itself. If it had gone there. the acting, directing, etc would've created a more compelling story. The two brothers could've been explored way more, even in the beginning. It spent way too much time on a very non value add beginning, where it could've developed the town characters and their interactions. It also doesn't help that once they ran the victim's prints those should've came back to the so called preacher. it's really annoying when details like that float unexplained so that you wonder how the hell the so called preacher even got to the stand in the first place.

So yeah, the script sucked basically. Or maybe half the script ended up on the editing floor. Probably would say don't waste your time unless you want something kind of disappointing with a couple good scenes and a moral to the story.
