Okay so I hate Westerns, they bore me to death but this pleasantly surprised me. It's a bit slow to start off with but pay attention-it's crucial to the storyline. Just as you think the movie is predictable and you've got it all figured out, it's plot twist after plot twist. The last half an hour I just can't fault at all. Brilliantly written, brilliant casting, brilliant acting. Sharon Stone and Russell Crowe were brilliant, Leo's part wasn't THAT relevant, although he looks amazing and is very charming! The only Western I've liked, this is one for true film appreciators! Would certainly recommend.

These days everyone gets all excited when there’s a strong woman in a movie. Like with Wonder Woman. They act like it has never been seen.
Here Sharon Stone is solid and bad ass. As a woman out for vengeance against the man that killed her father. A quick drawer tournament where you can challenge anyone. Might just be her answer.
The supporting cast is fantastic as well. Russell Crowe and Leonardo DiCaprio before they became big names. Are especially fine.
Just some goofy cartoonish violence held back the film from getting the good reviews it deserved. At least I think that’s why Siskel & Ebert didn’t like it. Otherwise I always found it almost impossible not to like but some how critics found a way.

Nice change of pace and quirkiness from the usual western formula. The whole cast were all equally good and memorable. Only thing that wounded me was the slowness in between. But the ending was fantastic and worth the wait.

Loved this movie years ago and still love it today. Is the acting perfect? no. Is the store the best? no. But I still enjoy it deeply and love Sharon Stone as "the Lady"

Although the movie is wonderful in its own right, I think there are other films with comparable stories that are better. The first example that springs to me is A Fistful of Money. Still, I'm confident that everyone who watches it will find something to like—from the standout performances to the cinematography—but it undoubtedly reflects its era, coming out in the 90s.

"I'm so damned fast I can wake up at the crack of dawn, rob two banks, a train and a stage coach, shoot the tail feathers off a duck's ass at 300 feet, and still be back in bed before you wake up next to me."

So I never knew that Sam Raimi made a western. I just suddenly saw this one pop up on Netflix and decided to watch it. To my surprise it even had a awesome cast. A very young DiCaprio, the beautiful Sharon Stone, scene-stealing Gene Hackman, Russell Crowe as a bad-ass priest gunslinger, Keith David with a epic mustache, Mark Boone Jr! Lance Henriksen! What a cast!

And we get a lot of quick draw fights with a Sam Raimi sauce over it. He makes them look great! The story was kind of basic but it didn't matter. A Sam Raimi western works. You see his style and he never fails to entertain. And put Gene Hackman as a great bad guy who turns it up for this one and you can't go wrong.

Well worth a watch!

A pulpy take on the Western that doesn’t feel like Tarantino in any way. It’s really well shot and pretty entertaining, but not without dead air and a general lack of character development. The acting’s really solid, Gene Hackman steals the movie.

6/10

You can see that Sam Raimi was messing even more with camera shots and different angles in this. I feel like he knows how to shoot good scenes and it's always a joy to watch. I liked the main storyline of this which is a competition of sorts, but the good casting is what made it fun.
