There were few movies that impressed (and scared) me more in my childhood. One of those films that you never forget, all your life.

extroverts will tell you this is a post apocalyptic movie. Personally I see it as a bit of a fantasy until other people show up.

very watchable. aged well.

What *[Silrog](https://trakt.tv/users/silrog)* wrote resonates for me. I think the first time I saw this though was in my twenties...alone, late at night, stoned. Anyway, in that state of heightened suggestibility the musical score deepened my experience in a magical way that I can still revisit. You can easily tell that the orchestration is simple...the tune reaches it's crescendo in just three minutes; it's repeated just a handful of times in the movie -- including at the beginning and the end. But, for just a few bittersweet minutes I am that nebbish/dweeb of a man who just sacrificed himself to save both the unobtainable beautiful fair-haired maiden and our honorable friend the bad-boy Maori, mostly so they can be together but also because I helped bring about the tragedy that risks their lives. But, in saving them I then find myself even more alone, exiled to an alien world.

I don't think it'd be nearly as sad or dramatic without pulling out all the stops at the end...What Ricky Clausen used to say differentiates the old black and white classic films from those of today: **"Fuck reality, bring up the light, bring up the music!"**

Really interesting and atmospheric last-man-on-earth movie. It raises some deep questions and presents a quite ambiguous ending, that can be read in many different ways. It's no wonder this has a cult following.
