It is amazing how cinema done well can make the viewer empathize so much with the protagonist, and that is the case with The Quiet Girl.

Despite the little dialogue, I was able to feel every single emotion the little girl was feeling, I wanted to reach into the screen and hug her tightly, until I burst into tears in the final scene with that cookie and the "Daddy."

Wonderful soundtrack, the little girl acted great even though she is only 12 years old, poor plot but strong impact, it is more focused on making you empathize with the girl. One of the best films of 2022

8/10

An Cailín Ciúin (A Quiet Girl) is like watching a short story where every scene feels like reading literary descriptions crawl across the screen.

I know it's supposed to be poetic (it was an international picture nominee at the last Oscars, after all) but I just found it slow. There's just something wrong with a movie whose description and summary are the same thing.

Plus, it's hard to be a father and a cinephile because movies like these are a place where they grind little girls. Yet lead child actress Catherine Clinch is ethereal and I'm convinced they made this movie solely to capture the luminescence she exudes.

no offense intended but I absolutely needed subtitles for the English parts too, the way those words just all ran together...

Not offensive. This is a pretty normal ‘countryside’ way of speaking in Ireland and they use some slang words. It’s a heavy accent. The girl does mumble a bit too, she’s the quiet girl after all ;)

The plot of "The Quiet Girl" is kept very simple, yet it's still incredibly effective. At its core, the film is about a nine-year-old girl from an overburdened home in rural Ireland in the early 1980s who spends the summer with childless relatives. During the very slowly and thoughtfully told story, she gradually comes out of her shell and connects with her new surrogate family. In the process, issues such as dealing with grief are also worked through. The whole thing is accompanied by stunning cinematography. Catherine Clinch is compelling as the titular quiet girl, as are Carrie Crowley and Andrew Bennett as her surrogate parents. Overall, "The Quiet Girl" is a touching and honest film that captivated me completely.

What a beautiful and warm movie. Just thinking about it brings up a mixture of emotions.

This is a quiet film about (mostly) quiet people. The film does a fantastic job demonstrating how delicate it can be to be a child, and also how the same can be said of the process of raising a child. The film is extremely so and thus I can't imagine that it is going to be for everyone. I think the film did a fantastic job of leaving out details that didn't matter and only revealing (eventually) what was important to the story. The ending was a bit unexpected and extremely powerful.

Nice and sweet, not exceptional due to some passages not well explained which could have deepened the background and the overall meaning.

Quietly absorbing and by the end, emotionally devastating. A wonderful piece of filmmaking

A look at the fragility of the world from the point of view of a girl who doesn't need big events to build a subtle narrative of looks and gestures. In fact, sometimes it can be somewhat explanatory, as if the director wasn't sure of conveying the sensitivity that he manages to convey without difficulty. Rarely have relationships between adults and children been shown with this ability to find the right balance between sensitivity and distance. It is a beautiful film in all its senses, which has Carrey Crowley and especially Catherine Clinch as its best allies.

An Cailin Ciuin (The Quiet Girl) trakt post should have the original title - An Cailin Ciuin - especially since the film is in the Irish language.
Special Screening at the Chicago History Museum — December 11 at 2:30 p.m.
