It seems a film inspired by a novel targeted to middle-school children (and indeed it is), and it a nice story overall, not very realistic though. Interesting the cut about the war and fascism in the 40s England.

@obione_tdg the brawl where American MPs shot soldiers is a true event though. Known as the Battle of Bamber Bridge, the conflagration in Lancashire was sparked late on June 24, 1943, after a pair of U.S. military police patrolmen responded to a reported “disturbance” at the thatch-roofed Ye Olde Hob Inn pub.<br /> <br /> The runaway 14 year old soldier may be fabrication, but similar instances where common enough to be known to happen. It is conviently packaged for the story and given a happy ending, but truth is not too far from fiction here.
