Well I'm in the minority with this...

I actually, admittedly narrowly, enjoyed 'The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause' - terrible title, mind. Most other reviewers clearly didn't and I respect that, but I genuinely found it alright. It's definitely the weakest entry of the series, yet I still found it entertaining enough.

Martin Short (Jack Frost) is the star of this second sequel to 1994's 'The Santa Clause', outshining lead Tim Allen; who is still decent, by the way. I love Short's character design, he looks ridiculous in the nicest possible way and Frost (why him, I'm not sure I admit) makes for a relatively good villain. All the other cast members take a backseat, while the storyline of Alan Arkin's Bud is very forgettable and arguably needless.

I was expecting to dislike this and the preceding follow-up, but to my surprise they are actually - at least to me - harmlessly fun festive films.

So this movie is pretty bad but if you watch this just for Martin Short as I did, then you'll enjoy his over the top acting as it is just so funny with his physical comedy and boisterous way of speaking. It always makes me laugh when watching this movie at the stupidity of how this movie came to be.

One thing that should be applauded and something that I didn't mention in the other reviews for the previous two movies. Is the set and character design. It is a sight to behold when you travel through the North Pole and see all the little things that just put a smile on your face. Jack Frost's design is really good and would have been better if they didn't mention how well his hair was done in the movie. Even the makeup and clothing for Scott as Santa is very good. Not even looking like Tim Allen if you try to imagine him normal.

Speaking of Tim Allen being normal, that's where the plot of the movie leads. And it is just bad, a bad plot and a bad execution of the cliched "parallel universe" or "role reversal" type of thing they were going for. It doesn't add up to some things and is passed over very quickly especially with the involvement of Liliana Mumy's role as Lucy. As she was meant to be the centrepiece of the film in terms of relationship building and it just didn't work in the final act.

The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause (bad title, they should of all been plain numbered or called 'The Santa Clause', 'The Mrs Clause' and 'The Escape Clause'), is a poor movie that delivers the same movie of Christmas story that blends comedy and the family ties situation as the parents come over and all that stuff that doesn't really matter in the slightest. This should have been the end of the series, but as it turns out the true "final" movie is coming this year and surprisingly is directed by Robert Zemeckis. So maybe this one will turn out to be a good ending to what should have been a magical movie franchise.
