Along with "The Rocketeer", this one's also one of the unfortunately widely underrated films. Certainly not a milestone in film history, but a good and entertaining flick to watch with a bag of popcorn.

It's decent and enjoyable as a period piece movie from the golden age of superheroes, even if not flawless. The plot is uneven, and they make some corny and strange choices, but the action and special effect scenes are great considering when they were made, and the characters often surprisingly avoid the cliches common for that decade of movies, particularly with Lamont Cranston (Baldwin's character).

I always found it weird that he becomes the Shadow, Alec looks like William Baldwin lol. Such a corny but non-stop entertaining 90’s film.
I have loved it since I was like 14.

I like those early comic book hero movies. The have a certain charme. No CGI and/or green screen but sets and principal photography.

This movie was awesome when I saw it in theaters as a kid. Just watched it recently and boy did it not age well.

This is a good example of what a big screen and surround sound can add to your movie-watching experience. On a TV screen with the built-in speakers, this movie probably couldn't hold most people's attention or interest nowadays. While it may not be perfect by any means, this movie comes to life with a good home theater setup. I watched it upmixed with DTS Neural:X in 7.1.2. The scenes where the Shadow whispers and moves around sound great. Lots of cool moments in the sound, and the picture has a good grain structure, and overall there's a campy, pulpy design to this movie. If anyone finds a way to open a gateway to the alternate universe where this movie spawned multiple sequels, let me know because we're going.

A good companion to this, and I would say the better of the two of them, is The Phantom with Billy Zane. https://trakt.tv/movies/the-phantom-1996
