Just a dang ol good thriller movie. Anyone who liked "get out" should like this.

Favorite scary movie. All around well done.

Even though I'm not a big fan of movies that feature the occult or voodoo or "swamp" horror for that matter, this was a creepy, moody surprise. Kate Hudson and Gena Rowlands are pretty much a two-woman show, and John Hurt does some decent gasping and grunting in an effort to communicate his knowledge of the evil that lurks within the old mansion.

There are some surprising twists and turns but it's a mostly low key affair. There isn't a lot of action, but the characters keep things interesting and there are some scary images and good editing that keep you on edge.

What can I say? It un-nerved me. The thought of it gives me chills.

the movie is not good and not bad. It has jump scares in it, with would make the movie a 3of10.

BUT (!) the endling is so good, that it raises the bar.

5/10 for a average movie with a superb ending !

I don't get when people say this movie suffers from haunted house horror movies clichés because it definitely doesn't. It's an interesting, innovative and well-rounded story that doesn't scare, but definitely creeps you with its great cinematography and brooding ambiance, solid performances all around and [spoiler] also for the fact that the movie doesn't have a happy ending at all for the protagonist [/spoiler]. And, hey, some might even thank this movie for what is considered one of the best horror movies of the last decade: [spoiler] Get Out [/spoiler].

Reminded me of watching an episode of the show Supernatural where everything is extremely drawn out with dialogue and not enough excitement to string the whole thing along. I had to cut it off and watch the rest in another sitting. During the 2nd half I started making predictions to the ending out of boredom and managed to get it mostly right :person_facepalming:♂ [spoiler]Caroline resembled a young version of Violet - in fact, look at the actress' photos side by side, the photo of Gena Rowlands when she was younger looks very much like Kate Hudson.[/spoiler].

There are some cool scenes no doubt, but at other times cheesy camera effects are sprinkled in and it just cheapens the feel imo. Also, I had a smile on my face during the scene where [spoiler]Violet is SLOWLY chasing with the shotgun. It's hardly frightening, she's firing at such a far range in low visibility... it truly felt like a joke[/spoiler].

It started very well, got a little off in the middle and the ending saved everything, I loved it!

An under-rated movie that has way less good reviews than Get Out. Despite being very similar and “spoiler”, this has a less happy ending. So this movie probably will haunt you more when it is over.

Great all around; acting, story, pace, atmosphere. Watching a 2nd time is as fun if not more than the 1st.

Largely watchable, but ultimately forgettable, this wastes the talent of its cast, particularly John Hurt, and builds to a finale that doesn't really land at all. The location could have been used to build atmosphere, but the filmmakers seem content to waste this on poorly executed jump scares. It's all put together competently and the cast does its best with the material, but there is very little to recommend this other than to pass the time and there are far better films of this ilk out there.

Surprisingly good and very intriguing horror thriller! Some nice plot twists included.

Far, far better than I was expecting! A great psychological thriller movie with a unique twist at the end. Definitely worth watching!

Catching up before it's leaving Hulu. _The Skeleton Key_ is a surprisingly effective supernatural thriller about a woman who looks after an elderly patient in a big creepy old house where no mirrors allowed and she begins to experience spooky things after finding out a room which cannot be opened using a Skeleton Key. This is not a particularly scary film but it's very atmosoheric and creepy. It plays out more as a mystery than a horror film. A bit formulaic but I find it mostly entertaining. The mystery aspect is really compelling although it's still predictable in a lot of places. It just feels great watching all my suspicions unfold as the story progresses. The acting is alright. There's this one character that you can tell from miles away is a villain and Kate Hudson's character touching and moving things without any good reasoning really get on my nerves. But I had so much fun watching it.
