A movie about a woman who falls in love with a man who has all the personality of an uncomfortable chair. Every time she sits on it, it hurts her, yet she keeps going back to it because it's her favorite chair. WTF?

Seriously, the whole movie hinges on her passionate love for this guy and I thought he was an extra for much of the film? Like that damn chair, I'm not buying it.

I know this film has been highly regarded but it didn’t do anything for me. The most interesting moment is when Richard Ayoade turned up with an highly uncharacteristic performance.

a toxic relationship where the protagonists speak in a very affected way.

A film built on memories of the director that make it interesting, more than in the description of this dependency relationship, but in her gaze towards artistic creation. While the protagonist builds her film between documentary and fiction, the film we are watching looks like a documentary at the end (the "interviewed" mother). It is a deep insight into creative process, which makes us curiously await its sequel.

I liked that the film didn't spend a lot of time setting the backdrop of the film. In the opening sequence you get a feel for many of the main characters through their party conversations (or lack thereof). I thought it was really interesting and in some ways inspiring how the (fantastic) female lead kept trying to drag her love interest over the proverbial finish line. Again, very few conversations about their struggle. Her quiet and strong spirit really carried the movie and that alone made the film worthwhile.

Honor is a great actress. Her acting alone makes the movie deserve those 7 hearts.

A little slow for me but some good performances and I was interested in their relationship.

The Souvenir's intent to be a dispassionate and a secretive semi-biographical affair of a young female in 80s London maybe worked a little too well and completely left me alienated from the vulnerability that I think, is supposed to bind me to the film. Unfortunately, this made watching the movie excruciatingly dull and painful.
