One of the most iconic sound tracks of any movie ever.

First time I saw this was when VHS tapes first came out in the 80s. I remember thinking then it was a good movie. Watching it again, I was reminded why this is a classic. Back when effects were minimal, touching up, splicing, etc., a good script dependant on the actors and the director wasn't just a nice to have but a requirement. But the best part is the goal of this script is not just the sting in the plot but the sting of the audience. I had forgotten that and it made it that much more enjoyable.

The chemistry between Newman and Redford shines, Shaw makes for a great adversary and the script is razor-sharp throughout. Like many films of the genre, the enjoyment and longevity of the film is not necessarily in the twists and turns of the story, which will be clear to newcomers familiar with similar films, but in watching all the pieces fall into place. The Sting juggles a number of subplots throughout, but never confuses and the way in which each of these plots are brought together in the final act is a wonderful payoff for the audience - it is clear how many films that followed have paid attention. The supporting cast are all fantastic and it is little wonder the film has endured as a classic.

Think Ocean's 11, only better. This a classic heist film made only better by the great characters and acting. There twists upon twists and it's almost impossible to predict how it will all unravel in the end. If you liked Ocean's 11, then you'll love this movie

I don’t know why, but it just doesn’t do it for me. It’s clever, fun, well acted and it holds up good too. Still, I just don’t like it as much as it probably deserves.

Holds up great. Still a well executed, taut, clever storyline.

8/10

A great heist movie with plenty of twists and turns. I could watch Paul Newman and Robert Redford do anything, they are perfect together. The score is fantastic too. I think this will only get better after a rewatch.

So I did a podcast reviewing this movie a while back. It was the first time I saw it then, and now on a second viewing I'm happy to report that it is still an awesome film. This is one of those movies that is great entertainment for just about everyone out there I think. We get a twisty plot to figure out as it unfolds, a jerk bad guy to root against, a character upgrade (both internally and in style), and of course two great lead actors to be immediately drawn to.

Honestly, I don't want to speak to much about it so people can just enjoy how it presents itself from the get go. The only thing you need to know is to go out and watch it.

A magical plot, dead on art direction, brilliant supporting roles, and the guiding hand of Redford/Newman chemistry make this one of the Hollywood's great films. "The Sting" is a hallmark of the "Golden Age" of American film, and has molded not only countless films, but numerous genres, few of which have met the challenge of its master.
