Amalgamated Dairies hires David Rutherford, an FBI man turned industrial saboteur, to investigate a popular new product called “the Stuff,” a new dessert product that is blowing ice cream sales out of the water. Similar vibes to 'Slugs' from 1988, in that it's an absurd rollercoaster ride from start to finish. The story often sets up plots that are almost immediately dropped as the characters decide to do something irresponsible instead. The miniatures are pretty good and the practical effects can be horrifying at times but the greenscreen work is disastrous. 'The Stuff' was always meant to be a parody/satirical take on consumerism but was inappropriately marketed as a straight horror. Great movie to watch with friends during an ice-cream party.

So is "The Stuff" a metaphor for crass consumerism and relentless advertising? The world's dependency on oil? Chemical or drug addiction? Maybe it's just a movie about a guy who starts eating tasty goop that bubbles up from underground and decides to try and make a few bucks? Whatever the case, it seems everyone wants to read some greater statement into it, but the fact is that "The Stuff" is not a good movie. I like a "good" bad movie as much as the next guy, but this was too disjointed and poorly done for me to enjoy.
