It's just Luther with an American accent really. I did enjoy it though.

Some movies that are 3 hours long just fly by, this one, 90 minutes long but seems to drag on forever!! Seems like they just got Idris Elba because they thought he's a cool and talented actor and just threw up a $50 movie around him.

Stupid plot, shallow, superficial under-developed characters that it's hard to even care about and naff script. Jeez even the music credits are awful.

Some are saying Elba could be the new James Bond, not on the back of this he won't be.

It was a good cast, apart from that the script was fairly poor

Pretty good, for what it is. 'Bastille Day', or 'The Take' for us in my neck of the woods, is a sound action thriller that suitably entertains.

Idris Elba has played this sorta role many a time but there's no doubting how strongly he performs in such films. He and co-star Richard Madden are sporting distracting (at least to someone who knows them more for their native tongue) accents, but are a solid pairing... their (admittedly somewhat minimal) buddy cop-esque banter isn't the best, though.

Elba also appears in the end credits singing... not to great effect, I gotta say. Don't get me wrong I know that guy can very much do music, it's just that this song is, erm, not his strongest work, let's just say that.

It's largely predictable, though it does things in a manner that kept me interested and enjoying what I was setting eyes on. So it gets a pass from yours truly.

6.5 script could use work

Pretty solid action movie. Nothing new for the genre, but a great vehicle for Idris.

I watched this for Idris. He's very good, the script is not. Some decent action pieces, but overall it's an 85 min movie that feels closer to 2 hours. Waffled over a 5-6 score. Settled in at 5.4. Worth seeing if you're an Idris fan, but not much more.

Good action movie tempo script acting

Cracking film, and better than I expected! It ticks along very nicely with the help of some skillfully filmed chase and fight sequences. Dodgy and pointless accents aside, there are enough twists and turns to keep you entertained while you eat dinner. I'm sure people will pull it apart but don't let bad comments put you off watching this 92 minutes of thrilling action... 7.5/10

The story is derivative and weak, the twists of the story are telegraphed well in advance for anyone paying attention and the poor attempts at social commentary just don't work. That said it is kept watchable by Madden and Elba who have enough charisma between them to keep the film going despite the dodgy American accents. Strangely though, they have very little chemistry between them and the attempts at humour often fall flat. Watchable enough but ultimately largely forgettable.

By-the-numbers, typical little formulaic action flick. Decent if you're looking to kill an hour and a half, but not much noteworthy. What this really does though is showcase how awesome Idris Elba can be. All he needs is the right franchise and this dude can be an action star.

Enjoyed this movie quite a lot and although the lot wasn't something spectacular there were still great scenes like Elba going after Madden. Old school action, cast did its work and it definitely had some interesting fight scenes. Overall, it was much better that I expected it to be but still an enjoyable movie for anyone interested.

Enjoyed this movie quite a bit. Solid action, strong plot especially for an action movie. Gritty, hard hitting, action packed and cheesy dialogue.
