I know that when you watch these older movies you have to try to suspend your modern thinking in order to enjoy it but....
I was really enjoying this movie until things took a turn.
She was a stay at home wife. She ended up with a very high paying job that fell into her lap and like any sane person she didn’t turn down such a lucrative job offer.
Her husband hates that she is working and making all this money. They argue and later her husband decides to try to trick her into thinking he’s having an affair.
She never confronts him about this affair she assumes he is having and she decides to quit working to make him happy and keep her happy marriage.
It was going great until I realize she was not going to confront him about his affair (which she never finds out was just a rouse) and that she was going to quit her job to make him happy.
It’s disappointing they chose to end the movie with her giving in and giving up her job and that she never even made him explain himself about the affair she thought he was having.
It was going good till the ending. It was cute, light hearted and funny at times but I felt like the ending just made me mad!
I know we are living in a different and more modern time but I will say this... Four years before this movie was released, Ruth Bader Ginsburg had already graduated from law school. By the time that this movie was released, a woman working outside the home was not that crazy or radical of an idea. So knowing that makes the choice of how to end this movie more irritating.
I love Doris Day but certainly the ending of this movie was disappointing for sure.
