This is the first streaming-service movie I’ve ever seen that actually feels like a blockbuster. I went in expecting lazy writing with a rushed plot and shallow characters just like the Netflix counterpart Army of the Dead, but what I got was the complete opposite. The writers actually put a tun of effort into developing the main character from the start, and even the side characters we meet along the way are given simple but effective story arcs throughout the film. Unlike the ridiculous montage we got at the start of Army of the Dead where all the main characters are summarized by literal photographs, this movie goes the extra mile and successfully builds a cast of likeable, multi-layered protagonists.

The plot of the movie is very unique and it progresses perfectly, you get everything you could ever want or expect from a movie like this and it doesn't hold back at all which is new for a streaming-service movie. It literally gives you things Army of the Dead teased but never delivered on. The father-daughter drama is actually emotional and not insufferable, the enemies are actually scary and not cheesy, and I shit you not someone ACTUALLY uses a chainsaw to destroy an enemy in this movie instead of just holding a chainsaw but never actually using it. I'm also a sucker for epic last-stand sequences and this movie delivers in spades.

The only problem I had was that the movie felt like it had four acts instead of three, the fourth act was still enjoyable but ultimately it was unnecessary. Overall The Tomorrow War is a brilliant action adventure movie that could’ve easily become a classic on the level of Independence Day if it had a theatrical release and slightly better cinematography.

You will have to turn your brain completely off for this one, but if you can then it's an alright cheesy Sci-fi movie. There are so many continuity and science errors so you'll have to go into it knowing that you just have to let them so. There's also a lot of moments where you'll say "really" but, again, just let it go and turn off that part of your brain. There is nothing really new here. The plot of this is a hodgepodge of several other films and the characters, even though they're supposed to be smart, do the most idiot things. It's like watching a bad horror movie where the person just makes one bad choice after another but you know they have to do it to make the movie work. Some of the acting is rough, but there are also a few good laugh out loud moments, even though I'm not sure all of them were intended to be funny. I suggest that if you love cheesy Sci-fi and you're willing to just go with it, bad or good, then you give this one a go. It's definitely not the worst thing to watch if you want to kill an afternoon or evening.

Boy the wah wah wah factor continues to rise during the streaming era, the amounts of complains about this movie that are getting those thumb ups are astounding since this movie was honestly pretty damn good. People are far too picky these days, I always dodge reviews with words like "Cliché" and "Dull" in them because too many times they end up just being people who have seen thousands on thousands of movies and have just grown bored with anything and everything new.

This movie worked on every level it intended to, and reminded me of those classic movies you'd watch back in the day a dozen times because they were fun to watch and were movies that were easy to understand but deep enough to not be cartoonish. It's why films like Independence Day were so watched and so many people could recite the lines, and still remember the scenes, but then you'll have some shitty 3 and a half hour long samurai movie from the 50's in the "top 20 movies of all time" on the imdb list. Internet critics and actual paid critics have the same thing in common, a complete burn out from watching too many things, and not enjoying the very enjoyable movies like this one that come along because they follow a formula or don't send a woke enough message. Go watch whatever artsy fartsy new crap is out and get outa here whiners.

Sometimes, cliché as it may be, a movie is just good, and this movie is just that.

@paulvincent83 Now I see why you were so salty at the end of your reply to my comment. Apparently people who have a different opinion or different taste are just "whiners" - says, hypocritically, **The Internet Critic** of reference. If you liked it, maybe you should put more effort into expressing what makes this movie deserve a 9/10 from you instead of crapping all over those who think it sucks. Instead, this diatribe is looking for sympathy from fellow whiners, _wah wah wah factor_ my a$$

@ner0p Woah buddy, I was salty? I said you'd need to pay attention because it was a quick mention to an explanation of why something so primal was invading earth that it seemed like you missed, you're clearly the one offended here. Sorry my opinion about people's expectations and bitterness hurts your feelings, but I have a right to mine just like you do yours. If I think you're whining oh well, it's clearly your thing since you also did it in your reply to me, go whine about some other movie you haven't finished yet and move on with your life.

@paulvincent83 You're misquoting yourself, buddy, but you can always go back and read your original comment and see why it comes across as salty, especially when paired with whatever this is. Don't rush me, I can move on with my life and whine about movies I haven't finished watching at my own pace, just don't twist the argument, one thing is commenting on a movie, putting into words what you did or didn't appreciate about it for your sake and/or those who might read it, entirely different when you just generally vent on whomever doesn't appreciate the same movie – it’s your rightful opinion, of course, but sad that somehow your logic is that people who differ in opinion must do so because they're bitter or whatever adjective of negative connotation is convenient. Oh, and god forbid that "negative" comments get some thumbs up from other bitter numskulls that agree with it, that'd be just… wah wah wah. Now, if you'll excuse me, my bathroom break is over and I have to go.

@ner0p Well cry me a river and move on to the next movie you want to go take a dump on, but my review stands since thankfully, I don't let the crybaby reviews like yours dictate whether or not I'll enjoy a movie, and if I can influence at least a few others not to as well then job done. People can differ from my opinion on a ton of things, but if you don't like being called bitter don't sound so bitter, maybe you're not bitter at all maybe you're just pompous, but whatever you are I don't have to like it and we don't have to be friends so au revoir snowflake.

Great watch, will likely watch again, and do recommend.

It's usually a good sign when the worst part of a time travel movie is the time travel.

I could probably make an hour long video on the time travel in this movie, especially compared to "Looper", but I'll forego that enough to say that it's well leveraged for the purposes of the movie.

The "White Spikes" are amazingly well put together, though I think projectile spikes are an odd biological evolution.

The story is far from perfect, but the cast, the acting, the situation, and especially the action are all executed wonderfully with a high production value to back it up.

Amazon Prime’s purchase of The Tomorrow War from Paramount was a bold move as the FX-laden film starring Chris Pratt reportedly cost around $200 million to purchase and follows prior purchases of Paramount films by the streamer.

Pratt stars as an ex-soldier named Dan Forester who has just been turned down for a research job he has been seeking and must remain teaching science to less than enthusiastic students.

While watching a Soccer match with his wife, daughter, and friends, the world is stunned when a group of armed individuals appear in a flash of light and tell the televised audience that they have come from thirty years in the future and are seeking help to save humanity.

It is soon learned that an Alien threat they call the White Spikes suddenly appeared and has humanity on the verge of extinction. The nations of the world send forces into the future to help fight the war but with a very high casualty rate; a worldwide draft is soon instituted to replenish the numbers.

Dan is eventually drafted and told he has 24 hours to get things in order before he is deployed for seven days at which time he will be returned. Dan contemplates running and seeks out his estranged father (J.K. Simmons); who has a deep disdain for governments and conducts himself in a shady fashion to the point where Dan will not let him anywhere near his daughter.

Dan eventually deploys and finds a nightmare version of the future where cities are in ruin and the deadly and very tough enemy is everywhere.

As the tension mounts; Dan must team up with the leader of the resistance to develop a way to fight the aliens and save humanity before it is too late.

The film features some good FX and action and while there were many times I questioned why a different course of action was not attempted; the film eventually attempts to address many questions later in the film.

While the final act may seem overblown and too convenient; the film works as an enjoyable and action-filled escape as long as you are willing to just go along with the ride and not ask too many questions along the way.

While there are elements of prior Science Fiction and Horror films evident; the cast and premise work well and the movie is a step above most offerings that are sold to streaming services and is well worth a watch.
