This is the first streaming-service movie I’ve ever seen that actually feels like a blockbuster. I went in expecting lazy writing with a rushed plot and shallow characters just like the Netflix counterpart Army of the Dead, but what I got was the complete opposite. The writers actually put a tun of effort into developing the main character from the start, and even the side characters we meet along the way are given simple but effective story arcs throughout the film. Unlike the ridiculous montage we got at the start of Army of the Dead where all the main characters are summarized by literal photographs, this movie goes the extra mile and successfully builds a cast of likeable, multi-layered protagonists.

The plot of the movie is very unique and it progresses perfectly, you get everything you could ever want or expect from a movie like this and it doesn't hold back at all which is new for a streaming-service movie. It literally gives you things Army of the Dead teased but never delivered on. The father-daughter drama is actually emotional and not insufferable, the enemies are actually scary and not cheesy, and I shit you not someone ACTUALLY uses a chainsaw to destroy an enemy in this movie instead of just holding a chainsaw but never actually using it. I'm also a sucker for epic last-stand sequences and this movie delivers in spades.

The only problem I had was that the movie felt like it had four acts instead of three, the fourth act was still enjoyable but ultimately it was unnecessary. Overall The Tomorrow War is a brilliant action adventure movie that could’ve easily become a classic on the level of Independence Day if it had a theatrical release and slightly better cinematography.
