Fred C. Dobbs and Bob Curtin, both down on their luck in Tampico, Mexico in 1925, meet up with a grizzled prospector named Howard and decide to join with him in search of gold in the wilds of central Mexico. Through enormous difficulties, they eventually succeed in finding gold, but bandits, the elements, and most especially greed threaten to turn their success into disaster.

Bogart plays a really interesting and flawed character in this one, against his usual type. I had mixed feelings about Bogart's character since I didn't want him to do the things that he did, I wanted him to be good. But I think this conflict was in line with the theme that gold fever does bad things to men and helped the film. A really strong cast and great story no wonder the film is generally rated so highly.
