I had seen this film two times before, back in 2004 when it was released and I completely hated. I can't explain exactly why, maybe because it was slow paced, and at the time I was 14 and I came to the theatre to see an horror film and then I discovered that it wasn't horror and I got disappointed. Obviously now that I am older I can appreciate in a film things that I didn't before.

It's a very good story that keeps you guessing throughout the film until the end. Once again Shyamalan can create the perfect mystery, the power of sounds, shadows and figures make us fear something that we can even see at first. We keep guessing and guessing and the tension grows until you finally find what was really happening.
All of the cast is also great. Joaquin Phoenix, Adrien Brody and particularly Bryce Dallas Howard are amazing! She gave a stunning performance!
The cinematography and the score are fantastic! The atmosphere is great!

Sometimes is great to revisit a film that we don't see in a long time, specially if you had seen it in a younger age. You can appreciate things differently, so for me it was totally worth it revisit The Village, contrary to what I was thinking.

I think rewatching this knowing the twist made it slightly worse. The acting was good for the most part, except for Adrian Brody. I think he was miscast. Another movie that wastes Judy Greer. The score was great.

Not as good as "Sixth Sense" but way better than "Signs", "The Village" is the very intriguing although slightly illogical story about Lucius and Ivy who live in an isolated Village in a Wild Park without any contact to the surround world.

The more M. Night Shyamalan films I see, the more I am convinced that The Sixth Sense was just a fluke and that he's actually a hack. This was so boring. I actually skipped through a lot of it.

For me this was, is and (probably) will be the worst movie I've ever seen. I've seen the trailer and went into the cinema with the expectation for a good thematic horror movie.
I couldn't get more disappointed. There were two, maybe three, shocking moments and thats it. No tension, at least for me no feeling with the characters, just nothing.
I rarely utterly dislike a movie, but this one did it for me.

Isn't it cool to be a M. Night Shyamalan hater these days? It's gotten so ridiculous that it's now harder to listen to "refined" movie fans dismiss one of his movies out of hand than it is to actually sit through one of his latest efforts. Granted his later output has not been as good, but his visual style remained exceptional.

"The Village" is where things really began to fall apart for M. Night. I think his fall from grace stems from the very misleading pre-release advertising that sold this as a monster/horror flick. Turns out it was nothing of the sort and that upset viewers a great deal. Fair enough but "The Village" still succeeds as a suspenseful and visually beautiful film.

Atmospheric and full of intrigue, The Village is a suspense thriller from M. Night Shyamalan. The story follows a small, agrarian village that lives in peace with mysterious creatures that inhabit the woods that surround it, until a rebellious young man ventures too far into the woods, breaking the long-held truce between the village and the creatures. Starring Joaquin Phoenix, Bryce Dallas Howard, William Hurt, Sigourney Weaver, and Adrien Brody, the film has quite an impressive cast. Howard in particular is especially good; giving a remarkably compelling performance. And the writing does a good job at teasing out the mystery of the creatures and the village. But (because it’s Shyamalan) a twist is expected from the start, and it ends up being a fairly predictable and underwhelming one. He even tries for a double twist that doesn’t work at all. Yet despite its weak twist, The Village has an interesting message about violence and the pursuit of innocents and hope.

The movie was put under Thrillers but I didn't find it very thrilling. It was more a dramatic lovestory of two young people in an isolated town. It could've been a really good drama, it could've been a very good thriller but it feels like it brought the least of two genres together.
Still, I watched it all the way through. Liked Adrien Brody and Bryce Dallas Howard a lot in this movie.
Could have been, wasn't that good.
