I was really pleasantly surprised by this one after the first one was such a schlockbuster. Much more thoughtful, much more character-driven. Could have been a bit shorter, the pacing bogs down around the [spoiler]lunar crisis[/spoiler] in particular, that whole act would really have benefited from tighter editing. And it's sometimes hard to follow due to a combination of the subs translation not being perfect and some scenes moving too quickly to allow you time to figure out what said opaque subs actually mean. But once you get your head past the scientific absurdity of the premise, which is a dumb basis on which to criticise a film anyway, it's very enjoyable.

High-budget Chinese film, with videogame-like CGI not so far from Avatar. A sort of Chinese version of the recent Emmerich's Moonfall, a bit better than the latter, with a more complex plot. It had two main drawbacks: the first one is that it is a three-hour long film made of loosely connected episodes, which may follow the source short story a bit too closely; the third hour could be shortened. The second issue was that the writing was not perfect: many passages were illogical or forced to create the climax crises, without offering many explanations of why it was so and alternative paths (often more logical) could not be considered. In sum too long, but overall enjoyable.

Again, not many reviews in IMDB/Trakt/Tomatoes with a score of 80! I went to watch it because of Andy Lau, not the score I didn't buy... and although it's a big ¥¥¥ production, the scenario has so many flaws both in the script and scientifically that it was more like watching a long sub-par Sci-fi movie. I feel It's some sort of PR job to proclaim “我们的人（China)...” saves the World. I would have preferred watching this later on my TV rather than paying that much at the Cinema. Note: acting was 'ok' for the Chinese actors but the foreigners are mostly those appearing in China productions so not the same expected level and made me chuckle a few times.

As a Chinese after watched this, I gonna say East-Asian culture is too grand and heavy. Sci-fi is no more than a mirror projecting certain cultures in the way of past, present and future.

Very high budget blockbuster. It covers a long period with 3 completely separate parts (or 4 as the third part of the movie has 2 parallel stories). Each deals with a different crisis in the project. While sure, there is propaganda here, but let's be honest, which country did not use movies/films to push their own propaganda? Which country did not make themselves as the “heroes” or “better race”? Can you truly say that your local movie or film production companies are not guilty of it?

The Wandering Earth II or the "wandering script", as I call it, does nothing to improve upon a proposition that failed to work, the first time around.

Now then, it's best - I think - to just accept that there is very, very, little plausible science to this save-the-planet movie. The format, and the story, have oft been done by Hollywood before so it's not top of the originality tree either - but it's still quite a watchable and well produced story More
