Wow! I've seen this movie now for the first time in 2016 and I didn't expect it to be that good. Love it!

In my quest to re-watch the whole TV-series, I watched this movie at it's intended place in the line. Between season 5 and 6. The X-Files is still highly watchable, and pretty fun. At least for the fans of the TV-show.

Even though it fits neatly with the series, it's not just an oversized TV episode. Everything is on a grander scale, and it works as a movie. That's more than most movies made from tv-series can say.

As a fan of the series, I can't say how this one come off for the people that HASN'T watched the series, but I have a suspicion it might get a bit confusing. Though...I think most fans of sci-fi would like it none-the-less.

Third watch. First time: around early '00s where I rented its VCD Blockbuster, having never seen the series before. Second time: during college breaks in early '10s when I watched most of the first 5 seasons (via an online list of recommended episodes), rewatched the film, then felt it a natural pause point and somehow never got back to it. Now I've slowly made my way through the series since August 2021, all episodes this time, and reached this film again.

At this point the mythology episodes have neared the nonsensical breaking point of how it can feign at expanding itself while often reaching some walk-back gotcha endings (and the surface drama/mystery have decreased a bit in quality as well), so a souped-up version for the big screen has a ceiling limit of interest. That said, the core relationship/rapport/chemistry of Mulder-Scully is developed and executed stronger here than the majority of Season 5's mythology episodes, so it is still a reasonably good time.

It's not terrible!

My original review of this film must've been erased by a secret government organization. This film is a pretty The X-Files episode unnecessarily pushed onto and into a grander stage and scale featuring a great deal of filler (and in need of competent editing) that says and adds nothing. Much like the show, this enhanced episode is silly (much of that unintentional), contradicts past episodes and itself, makes little, if any, sense, and plays fast and loose with the rules created for this fictional world.

To be fair, this movie is more a 5 than 6, but my personal nostalgia for the series elevates the score. Don't develop scripts that aren't golden and polished to a shine. 1 in every 1,000 projects heeds that sage advice. I could go on, but why? My words will only be reacted. The ***** is out there!

Occasionally flawed and it doesn’t always make sense but it’s the best X-Files movie. I Want to Believe was too serious and slow. With Scully not even Mulder’s partner.
Fight for the Future has aliens, conspiracies and the cigarette smoking man. It just screams X-Files and is funner than a lot of the episodes. Especially the reboot episodes.
I just don’t get how they knew one of the thousands of bees carrying an alien virus. Would sting Scully and not Mulder. Since the bad guys were targeting Scully and not Mulder.

Essentially a two-part episode on the big screen, the X-Files film largely works on what made the TV show work - the chemistry and relationship between the two central characters. Whilst the film is a narrative bridge between seasons and there are plenty of cameos and references that would probably make no sense to those not invested in the show, it's clear the filmmakers have also tried to ensure the narrative can be followed by newcomers. Unfortunately, this also leads to quite a few exposition dumps that would only really be appreciated by those following the TV mythology and a plot that has no real narrative resolution given the show was still on-air. Scully's character is also shortchanged in the final act to create tension and give Mulder his motivation, but while there are on screen together, the interplay and relationship between the two agents is tremendous fun.

Excellent movie. It's basically an extended TV episode which ties in to the whole mythology. It has its in's and out's.

The Alien Conspiracy finally comes to light in _The X-Files: Fight the Future_. Set between seasons 5 and 6 of the television series, FBI agents Mulder and Sully investigate the bombing of a federal building and uncover a sinister plot by a secret cabal to pave the way for alien colonization. Both David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson bring their A-game and deliver strong performances. Additionally, several recurring characters from the series stop by for cameos. Some knowledge of the television show is helpful, but for the most part the film does a good job at giving the audience a taste of the series without overwhelming them with too much mythology. Exciting and full of thrills, _The X-Files: Fight the Future_ delivers a compelling sci-fi adventure with aliens, shadowy organizations, and government conspiracies.
