From Twentieth Century-Fox comes _Titanic_, the first major motion picture about the Titanic disaster. The story follows a society couple that attempts to reconcile their estranged marriage on the maiden voyage of the R.M.S. _Titanic_. Clifton Webb and Barbara Stanwyck both give strong performances and have tremendous screen presence. Additionally, the writing (which won an Academy Award) is quite compelling. However, the film glosses over a lot of the actual people and events of the real sinking. Yet despite the lack of historical accuracy, _Titanic_ is an especially well-made film that’s dramatic and exciting.

I love watching those classics. As I always say: to understand where something is you need to know where it was before. Of course this is in no way comparable to Camerons movie but you see where he got his inspiration from. For example the love story between the society girl and the rather poor student. The kinda dance scene between the two on deck. A lot of the shots in this movie seem to be a direct blueprint for Cameron as they are practically mirrored. It might not be as historically accurate, after all a lot of things that where known about the tragedy today weren't known in the 50s. And it is missing a bit a the desperation when the ship is sinking. But all of that is but a little smudge on the whole picture. And, of course, the cast. Something that has one of the great ladys of cinema, Barabra Stanwyck, is always worth watching.
