This was one of the favorite movies of my childhood. Due to it I still want to drive a Chevrolet Camaro one day (just renting one for a day or so) xD
I love cars, CGI, artificial intelligence (AGIs), etc. (and of course I don't mind the action :D).

So this movie was a perfect fit for me and those transformations are very cool to watch :)

Anyway, I re-watched this after quite a few years and realized that the films (at least this one) weren't as good as I remembered them :o :D It wasn't that bad but in my memory they were just much better. There are a lot of strange/weird/silly/cheesy scenes so it's hard to take things even remotely serious (plus it is kinda embarrassing to watch at times). They're cool to watch (e.g., due to the action) but the story certainly isn't as good as it could be. And for me it's just annoying and silly that Bumblebee cannot speak. The Transformers are technologically super advanced, even we humans have text-to-speech / voice synthesis technology (although that technology probably was very basic/experimental at the time of this movie), and yet Bumble be doesn't find a better way than switching between radio channels for communication (which wouldn't work well at all and require that he can simultaneously listen to all radio channels). He could simply use any speaker directly... (or generate a radio signal for his synthetic voice if he really wants to use a radio as speaker).

Back then I wondered how they could loose Megan Fox and later Shia LaBeouf from such a well known and high-budget franchise but the lack of a good story might explain that (just a speculation though, I never researched what really happened).

Anyway, the voice of Optimus Prime is still epic! <3 (that always was one of the coolest parts, especially his monologues)

Oh, and there's that awesome soundtrack of course! <3 Steve Jablonsky's "Arrival To Earth" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0_FHPJIhNBw) is just superb :)

Edit: I just found a nice quote on YouTube: "Transformers will always have a place in my heart".

PS: In hindsight I wonder if I found Megan Fox that hot :D IIRC I did at that time but now I don't find her that attractive anymore (sure, she looks good, but nothing special). I like Maggie Madsen (that young DoD data analyst recruit) much more now. Rachel Taylor's Australian accent is just so cool :)

By no means a heart-wrenching or particularly memorable film, though it isn't exactly trying to be. Shia Labeouf, Josh Duhamel, and Julie White stand out from the cast as likeable characters worthy of at least some attention.

One of the most atrocious aspects of the movie is the casting of Meghan Fox. She has a very limited range of facial expressions and often looks to be as dumb as a post - her mouth is open for most of the movie and she comes off as being there just to appeal to male viewers - which is creepy, considering her character's age. Ironically, Meghan's character is the only character in the film to undergo any sort of character development. Even then, most of said development cannot be truly called "development" as it simply consists of different attributes of her pre-existing personality being revealed to the audience via clunky, unnecessary exposition.

Stuff blows up, things transform, and cars go vroom. There's some questionable explanations holding it together and a forgettable "grab the the thing before the bad guy can get to it" type plot, but other than that, it's mostly machines fighting each other or teenagers interacting. Some lame, laughably bad computer hacking takes place as well. Ultimately, this movie is stretched far too thin, has too many characters, and has little to no heart. The transformations themselves range from nonsensical to impressive. Go watch Bumblebee instead.

With all the gazillion planets in the galaxy to choose from, the warring Cybertron races of "Autobots" (the sort of goodies) and "Decepticons" (the sort of baddies) descend on Earth in search of a missing cube. This "allspark" - landed on our planet aeons ago and for many years has been unwittingly in the custody of the always competent US military and their "Section 7" operatives - currently led by "Simmons" (John Turturro). Now it transpires that there is a clue to the location of this gizmo - and that is to be found on the spectacles of the grandfather of "Sam" (Shia LaBeouf), only he doesn't know it. The goodies decide to protect him by providing him with one of their number, the ultimate convertible car "Bumblebee" but that doesn't actually end up being much use as his bodyguard and soon poor old "Sam" and his gal "Mikaela" (the startlingly wooden Megan Fox) are embroiled in the action-packed Meccano movie. The star is easy on the eye and has a soupçon of charisma to bring, but otherwise this is just a shockingly derivative series of repetitive fight scenes featuring robots between whom it is almost impossible to distinguish. Their vocals all seem to involve them speaking into the microphone through an old pair of socks, and as it lurches on I gradually found I really couldn't care less whether the red robot beat the black one - you just know this is but the start of a never ending franchise with only two purposes. 1 - to restart the flagging career of Josh Duhamel and 2 - to sell toys, thousands and thousands of toys. Marketing has often been behind some of the most successful movie spin-offs, but somehow this is just a touch more cynical than the rest. The story is weak and the characterisations, such as they are, are about as deep as a hoof print. Plenty of pyrotechnics, though, but at all but 2½ hours long, this is a long old haul. Maybe if I were only twelve years old, but...
