Good movie, would watch again. Characters were fun to watch, though not acted amazingly. Battles were great.

Terrible. Out of character. Crew must read Homer.

Started the new year by watching the director's cut of Troy. While there are many cheesy moments, I couldn't help but get excited every time Eric Bana was on the screen. There are some epic looking moments in this which is why I am willing to overlook any inaccuracies it may have.

Very nice battle scenes, and the director's cut is not boring as it sometimes happens.

It makes no sense that they didn’t fire arrows at Achilles when he came to fight Hector

Growing up my dad and sister absolutely loved this film. It was one that was constantly on and inevitably saw it many times. It is a rather long epic (especially the director's cut), but it keeps moving and is incredibly engaging from start to finish. While it isn't quite Gladiator, I really enjoyed watching it again!

Rating: 3.5/5 - 80% - Would Recommend

A long watch, but just about a worthwhile one.

I enjoyed 'Troy', in short. A film, interestingly given his recent exploits, written by a certain David Benioff. It definitely has more than a few pacing issues, but they only affect the enjoyment factor minorly - at least to me. The score is a little lacklustre, mind.

The casting is outstanding, even if I don't think all the performances are anything to truly shout about. I found Brad Pitt and Eric Bana, although entertaining, a bit wooden in parts.

Elsewhere, Orlando Bloom and Sean Bean are arguably underused from an acting viewpoint - though their characters play huge parts, of course. You also have a load of other familiar faces, from Peter O'Toole to Brendan Gleeson to Rose Byrne to Diane Kruger. The definition of an ensemble.

The action helps keep things moving, the battle sequences are very nicely done. The film takes an age to reach the event that everyone knows about, but when it finally does it's excellent.

The cast and the action are my big takeaways from this. I couldn't comment on its accuracy on the original work. As a film, for me, it's very good.

Always loved this since the first viewing at the cinema when I was in University. After repeated re-watches after 2004 I finally got around to seeing the directors cut in 2020 and it's a marvel. My wife and I could not believe how quickly the time flew by. Great pacing, great fight scenes, really interesting characters. Fantastic!

Big Cast, big expections, small outcome. Overall i expect a more complex and better arranged main story line. Fight scenes were an "ok" thing but i also felt a bit out of place and lost the fun and woar moments in those. Brad Pitt did pretty well overall tho. Most likely the reason why the overall rating of this movie is above my rating.

This movie was kinda of janky....actually REALLY JANKY. I usually like historical movies, but I only enjoy it if the story seems believable or accurate to actual history. This one was alright, but I got HELLLA annoyed each time there was a romance scene in this movie. Archilles romance is ACTUAL BULLSHIT. I don't believe it for a minute, and I got really annoyed with that relationship the entire movie ( don't even get me started with Helen and Paris, Jesus Christ). I hated a lot of things about this movie, and liked very little. The only character I actually liked was Hector, but you know...Yeah didn't really like this movie, but I could possible watch it again if I just thought of it as a comedy movie...right? I had to watch this in Ancient History class and finished it at 11:30AM in class.
p.s this movie is really stupid

The best and worst of Hollywood, all in one package: bombastic, over-the-top action scenes, famous actors chewing scenery like it's going out of style, but very little heart and truth in the characters and dialogues. None of the characters are especially sympathetic, except perhaps Hector and Odysseus (played by an underused Sean Bean).

The movie claims to be "inspired by" the Ilad, but it should be noted that it plays fast and loose with the events of the Trojan War as chronicled by the Greek Epics, of which the Iliad is but a small part. It's loosely based on the Epics at best (for instance, the Trojan War was said to have lasted ten years, but here it goes by in the space of a week or two), and it makes no real effort to convey Bronze Age warfare with any accuracy.

This was also peak Brad Pitt, so we get to see his naked ass a few times for good measure.

An epic story that follows the assault on Troy by the united Greek forces and chronicles the fates of the men involved. Too much romance for my taste and no outstanding acting makes this a mediocre action flick IMHO.

Epic scale, little depth.
The actors delivered well, Eric Bana and actor of old king Priam were especially impressive. some overacting here and there to cope with the style is understandable for me, but the script is very mediocre, compared with the eye dazzling fight choreography and amusing set designs.
In short, typical Hollywood big budget to the bones. for a well known story such as Troy, you would expect they put a 21 century spin on it instead of doing it as is, something tactical, something outwitting. but no, Warner Brothers gave us more romance, which are super forgivable once the movie ends.
still watchable. but not much to remember.
