I wanted to watch this movie after stumbeling about a, what I can only now describe as, badly cut and shortened version on a certain video portal. It turned out to be a very different movie alltogether.
Now, you can certainly look at the story as some form of perverted sex thing, but that wouldn't do it justice. And it is not the intention of the movie. Like the title says it is about love, unconditional love. It is painted, granted, on a unique canvas.
Both, Owen and Liam, are looking for someone to love and who loves them back. But while Liam has a very precise picture of how this will work, it is Owen who doesn't know what he get's into. What started as fun becomes a nightmare.
But Owen get's back to Liam again and again because he is confused about his feelings and he wants to break out of his normal life. Liam becomes more possessive and manical because he can't grasp why Owen is not accepting his offer. He is willing to give him everything. An easy enough deal. He confronts Owen with a version of the Ben Franklin Balance Sheet (google it if you don't know it). On the one side, unconditional love, money, the ride of your life. On the other side continue your life as it is. There was a time in my life I know which bag I'd taken.
Aside from the script and the photography I was extremly impressed by both actors. Especially Cooke plays with a tenacity that is captivating. Equally great is McEntires portrayal of the shy and fragile Owen. Both are giving the movie the life it needs to get you into the plot.
Certainly not a mainstream movie but worth every minute.
