I liked this movie. I saw it specifically after seeing a review on YouTube trashing it for failing at horror and being a bad 'Alien' ripoff. True enough the horror elements aren't that scary, the characters lack development so you're not really concerned for them when they [spoiler]eventually die.[/spoiler] All that being said, I really liked this movie. I think more than anything the setting of a deep underwater base was really interesting and provided needed tension more than the [spoiler]monsters[/spoiler]. To be honest, I think this movie would have been better if it had been just the crew trying to survive at the ocean floor when something goes wrong without [spoiler]any monsters whatsoever.[/spoiler] The movie instilled a sense of danger in me very successfully. I think this is due to the underwater setting. It's similar to space but I think it's more familiar, so we appreciate underwater danger more than space danger. Maybe it's just me. The crew's struggle for survival was engaging and entertaining. Like I said before, maybe it would have been better if the whole movie was about a crew struggling with the environment instead of [spoiler]monsters[/spoiler]

Overall, I enjoyed it. Though to be fair I went in with low expectations.
