Like a weekend at your grandparents when your alcoholic uncle doesn't show up: you have a nice enough time but it's not the emotional thrill ride you hoped for.

Alex Lutz and Golshifteh Farahani are my 'acting' godparents and so to see that they were both starring in the same film had me psyched.

Sadly, the little film doesn't really draw us in and the reason is simple, there's no real conflict and as there's no real conflict, there's nothing for us to invest in.

Paterson (also starring the incredible Ms Farahani) was similar in nature but it replaced conflict with the slice-of-life poetry of the banal that enveloped the viewer like Sunday morning sunshine.

Une Comédie romantique, however, doesn't attain that level of transcendence but instead offers its ultra talented angels roles too restrictive for them to spread their wings.

Please, see the film for the pleasure of seeing Golshifteh Farahani and Alex Lutz on the big screen, but go in expecting a light dessert and not a feast.
