Until Tomorrow is a thriller like when your boss tells you they want to talk to you first thing Monday morning while you're walking out the door on Friday night.

This Iranian film is about a single mother in Tehran (which means her newborn is illegal -- seriously, look it up) who has to find a clandestine babysitter to hide her child from her parents who've announced a surprise visit.

Of course this film seems a little understated with the current Iranian regime killing children in the streets, but it does hint at the oppressive nature of the current government and highlights the precarious position Iranian women are in simply because they were born women.

Just One Night is a taut film filled with the tension of the routine, starring Sadaf Asgari, the extremely talented actress I first saw in the excellent 2019 film Yalda.

Until Tomorrow may be overlooked in the wake of the events it predates, but it's an incisive look at how we got there.
