Slow, boring, a wikipedia summary. It's like a Riverdale episode, but less cringier. The main problem is that Elvis is not Elvis. Elvis was the one that everytime he went on the stage stoled all the attentions, on this movie he is afraid of himself wtf. Elvis was not just rounded by female and panties, he was a movent where EVERYONE was involved. They made an inclusive film (like all the nowadays movies) but they forgot to include the real Elvis fan. I will say that they missed a great opportunity to narrate the story of a great singer.

@the_argentinian never talked about color of the skin, don't try to move the conversation into racism. What I'm trying to say is that Elvis had a different personality. Try to look at all the documentaries about him. Elvis was cocky, much more confident.

Now, if you want to reply, argument your reply, because attacking me just for my personal taste on movie or put the conversation in an other direction is not so fair.

@the_argentinian

"They made an inclusive film (like all the nowadays movies)" it means that they focused the attention on the NOWADAYS RELEVANT fights for the rights of everyone. I was only expecting a movie ABOUT Elvis.

Now, as I said before, argument your reply or shut up. And, more important things, don't PRESUME.

Just back from seeing Elvis and honestly if Austin Butler wants to walk, talk and dress like him for the rest of his life he can. That film was AMAZING and I know I’ll be thinking about it for weeks. Can we have the bluray now so I can do rewatch after rewatch? :sparkles:

Incredible :clap_tone1:

Austin Butler is outstanding as Elvis and plays the role amazingly; his voice, vocals, movement and intensity as Elvis throughout is amazing and he deserves awards :raised_hands_tone1:

First of all Elvis looks like a lesbian. Second, who edited this? Third, who decided the POV? Both should get a pay deduction. Fourth, why did they spend their entire budget on the music?

Just didn’t hit the mark. Elvis felt diminished and Hanks came on like a cartoon super villain.

Horrible movie. The director tries to tell the story from a different angle than you’d expect but it ends up being terrible. And the aged Tom Hanks looks horrible. Even the background music added for effect is horrible - it sounds like it’s for a horror movie.

Really great performances, but the movie is pretty messy. It genuinely felt like I was watching a movie trailer that was almost 3 hours long.

Elvis was caught in a trap of becoming Immortal again by the hands of BL. A visual folclore, with music intensity, amazing acting supported by a dramatic and intense story that makes you love and cry for the king more and more again.

A great theatrical, emotional roller coaster, entertaining, edge of seat kind of film that you love to see about a music icon. This is not your average non fiction story line type film about a celebrity, but a plot twisting story line jumping, action packed roller coaster type movie taking the audience on a hell of a ride about Elvis. The good, bad and ugly. Whether it was too much about his manager taking advantage of him or too much about the attraction fans felt for him or the impact he had in the civil rights movement, it was all very well done as it showed how much of a positive and historical impact he made on the music industry.

Also know as “The complicated story of Elvis as seen through the eyes of white privilege”. Surprised this movie made it out in 2022.

@whos_ur_buddha YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED! This is a platform for discussion of films not personal political agendas. Take your woke mind and go elsewhere... All this for someone who is so embarrassed by his person that he hides his name and identity. Perhaps we should call him KAREN?

@rexmaximvs If that's the case, why are you hiding your name. Perhaps we should call you KAREN wanna be? Furthermore, this is a platform to track shows and movies you watch, to be exact. You do realize that there are opinions in this world that are different than yours.

I was born in 1980 so I never had the pleasure of seeing this great man alive. This movie is amazing and it made me think of bohemian rhapsody both actors really made you believe that they were that person. Being Dutch it was weird having Tom Hanks trying to speak a few dutch words which weren't good btw haha. Also brought a tear to my eye to hear a snippit of It's only love my all time favorite number of Elvis. Hopefully this movie will receive a best picture nomination! Elvis may have left the building but will forever be in our hearts!

One can't imagine Elvis' story being done in any other than the Baz Luhrman way - campus and over the top. Nothing here you can't get on Wikipedia, and too long, but worth the ride. The amped-up soundtrack is brilliant, as are Tom Hanks and Austin Butler. And for the first time some justice is done to the black roots of Elvis' music.

Go watch the 2005 miniseries with Jonathan Rhys Meyers. It can be done differently. And it should have been.

This was overblown. Baz chose to stroke his own ego rather than deliver the goods. Terrible casting. And it is elvis' voice in the mix for 90% of this so stop with all the Austin sounds great nonsense.

Actual Rating 8.5*

This was a really good depiction of the life of Elvis Presley. I'm going to be honest and say it took a little while to get into but it had a great pay off in the end.

Absolutely superb. The hours Austin Butler must have spent studying Elvis to get every mannerism and nuance spot on does not bear thinking about.
Oscar winning performance for me
