I feel like I finally understand the people who are turned off by the Coen brothers for their quirks and eccentricities. This is a really annoying film, it's like _Pulp Fiction_ if it was made by someone who doesn't know how to elevate that type of trashy/B-movie material. Technically still quite admirable (lots of good cinematography and editing), but overall just held back by insufferable dialogue, poor attempts at experimental/psychedelic imagery and a lack of memorable moments.

4/10

I couldn't finish this. The cartoonish accent/phrases that Margaret Qualley used was very distracting. If she was going for a Yosemite Sam type of vibe, she nailed it. I have lived in small town TX for more than half of my life. I am hours away from any big cities. 10 minutes into it I asked my wife if she had ever heard an accent as ridiculous in real life, neither of us have. We made it another 30 minutes before we turned it off.

Geraldine Viswanathan is great. The rest is ok.

I don't know why people are so harsh on this movie. It's a light, fun, quicky Sunday afternoon movie.
Maybe because of how unapologetically lesbian it is?

Imagine trying to make a Coen Brothers movie on your own. You would have colorful characters, a weird situation or misunderstanding, and a fair amount of violence. And that would be the absolutely minimum of what you would expect. Well, in this movie, that is about as much as you are going to get. Coens-lite? Derivative of Coens? It felt like there was a better movie in there but it just missed on so many levels. I kept waiting for it to kick in, but it never did. Margaret Qually (whom I first fell in love with in Sanctuary) gives it her all while playing a southern lesbian, but that isn't enough to carry this film. It really is a mess.

This is not as bad as some people claim it is. A fun little flick that doesn't reinvent the wheel but it it would be a lie to say that it didn't entertain me over it's pleasant 80 minutes. You can have a good time with it but probably forget about it in a few weeks but that's fine. Films like are needed from time to time.

Imagine an early 90s, maybe 80s movie about a guy and a girl going on a road trip and slowly getting along with each other. Whilst accidentally caught up in a criminal plot. Now replace the characters with lesbians and add in some awesome transitions. Yeah. This is what the movie's about. Not amazing, but visually nostalgic and filmy. Traditional Americana vibe but with modern lesbian raunchiness. I guess it's a clash of two worlds. I'd say the themes were nice but like the old classic films, not really that good.

'Drive-Away Dolls' is a fairly fun time.

It's a pretty straightforward movie, one that moves along at a decent pace and tells its story well enough. Margaret Qualley and Geraldine Viswanathan give good performances, Qualley overacts a bit sometimes but as the film progressed I enjoyed her more and more. The editing is something I feel similarly about, some bits aren't the best imo.

All in all, it works. The relatively short run time is a big help, admittedly.

Drive-away Dolls is like used Louboutins: flawed but with a good sole.

I kept telling myself I liked this quirky little romp with a stellar cast and fun plot, but then I realized both I and the movie were trying too hard.

Movie is okay. I enjoyed myself and laughed at times. Felt that the movie needed to be more chaotic for the plot. Instead the movie is very chill and relaxed for majority of the movie. It picks up a bit once the mystery is revealed but it still feels a bit tame at the same time. Definitely enjoyed it for what it was. If you enjoy movies that are random then you’ll have a good time. Might want to see it on a $5 movie day.

Drive-Away Dolls is a decent film (indecent if you're a Puritan). Margaret Qualley deserves praise, but the story is flat and the climax is weak. There are just enough laughs to keep you engaged, but not enough for sloppy seconds.

I know that we only have one Cohen brother making this one, but the end result feels like a parody version making a movie. The leads where absolutely fine and I like them as actressses, they just had nothing to do. The story is such a nothing burger in this short run time. Sure I had a chuckle here and there and enjoyed seeing big actors pop on screen, but that doesn’t save this from being a complete disappointment of a movie.
