Movie is unwatchable for the volume level being too much variable. Either dialogues are not loud enough or you go deaf from the scenes that have that 'weird pulsating sound'. Or be prepared to constantly change your volume.

Baffling. Extraordinary. Pigs. Barely any dialogue. Beautiful looking. Directed by Shane Carruth (Primer), It's very challenging - so much so that I'm not even sure repeat viewings will shed any more light on it. It's definitely one for cinema purists who like to watch cerebral movies. In that respect it's more of an experience than a movie aligned with Terence Malick and Darren Aronofsky material. What's it about? The cycle of life? genetics? religion? morality? ethics? Probably all these things. What's clear is that Shane Carruth operates on a level that is different to most of us!

WTF?!?! I wanted to like this. I really do like films that make you think, maybe even make me study them a little. One of those was Shane Carruth's "Primer". After watching it numerous times, it was ultimately frustrating and I found that no one could really follow it without many viewings. "Upstream Color" plays the same way but has not persuaded me to watch it again. I'm convinced it's weird with a goal of being indecipherable. It screams "I'm smarter than you!" in every frame. The characters are insufferable. It really isn't even visually appealing. Unless you favor pig pens and hotel rooms. I am not going to like a film because others think it's smart. If I missed something, that's on me. It was not entertaining in the least and to be entertained is the primary reason I watch movies.

This is Shane Carruth's Second major film. And like his first film "Primer", This is a movie Shane wrote, directed, produced, starred in and he created the music for, And it's very evident that this man is really able to work within a budget. Primer had a budget of only $7,000, and e More

Upstream Colour (or Color in the USA) is a difficult film to describe in many ways. It is very loosely plotted, slow and at times makes little sense from a linear story-telling point of view. The slow lazy progress and seemingly haphazard story will infuriate many people and I can imagine probably 5 More

After almost 9 years since Primer, Shane Carruth returned with his next film, Upstream Color. Once again, Shane played multiple roles in the creation of this film – producer (one of), director, writer, actor (one of), music director, cinematographer and editor (one of). The film was made with a ti More
