I haven't seen this one in awhile. I am not sure why it's not available on Amazon Video to rent or buy. The movie was considered weaker than Scream and even I Know What You Did Last Summer at the time.
The cast was pretty impressive though and it was a decent slasher flick.
The film did need a little more gore. It's so goreless at times it could be PG-13.

Right? Tara’s death was completely off camera - seemed like they were hinting at something but it ended up just being bad film making imo.

"Don't you want to be an urban legend, Nat? All your friends are now."

The only thing I remembered about Urban Legend was that I saw it in high school in 3 sittings. They showed the movie during English class. I don't remember why our teacher chose this one but hey, everyone thought it was bad-ass. We were all only around 14 years old. Two years younger then the 16 or older label on the dvd.

Anyway Urban Legend is a fun late 90's slasher. It has a fun cast with Rebecca Gayheart (those eyes!!!), Joshua Jackson, Jared Leto, Alicia Witt and Tara Reid. And the best part are the legends alongside them in the forms of Robert Englund and Brad Dourif. We even have scream queen Danielle Harris! Lovely stuff.

The logic is way out there but who cares, the kills are fun and the idea of using Urban Legends is great. I do believe Urban Legend is a bit underrated but if you haven't seen it yet and you are in that late 90's horror vibe, be sure to give Urban Legend a shot!

A meh watch in the 2020’s but a pretty accurate time capsule of 90s teen horror. The only great scene is the intro, it pretty much goes downhill from there.

The twist was dumb and kind of patronizing. They really tried making you feel like every character was the killer only to reveal a character who had no on screen motive or believability. Are we really supposed to believe a complete character rewrite in 5 seconds and then be gagged?

A campy and fun horror film, Urban Legend delivers some exciting thrills. At a small New England college a mysterious killer murders a series of victims using urban legends as a MO. It’s a clever premise that’s used to good effect. In fact the script does an impressive job at selecting which urban legends to use and how to integrate them into the plot. And the cast, which features Alicia Witt, Rebecca Gayheart, Jared Leto, and Tara Reid, is quite strong. Additionally, there are some interesting cameos from notable actors of other horror series. Still, there’s a bit of cheesiness and cliché-ness to the story; which is kind of a given with the urban legend motif. While it has a few weaknesses, Urban Legend is an entertaining film that delivers some witty satire along with its chills.

Absolutely love this movie. It's the best of the teen slasher clones to follow in the wake of Scream. Love the gimmick, love the style, love the score, and love the cast.

Another movie that has that Scream feel with an interesting premise but is still pretty cheesy. There is a certain scene with a microwave that caught me off guard and actually grossed me out, but at least Brad Dourif has one of the funniest cameos I have seen.
