I don't know why I keep going back to this "franchise"; all suffer the same problem. Half baked and poorly acted. The first story was the only one that held any interest, and it didn't go anywhere. I am going to make a promise to myself and stay away from any future movies in the series.

I rally need to stop watching these V.H.S. V/H/S movies. Bottom line is they are just bad and they never bring anything to an actual conclusion.
Although I did like this one just ever so slightly better than the last one I watched (V/H/S 99 I believe).

How I rate:
1-3  = seriously! don't waste your time
4-6  = you may or may not enjoy this
7-8  = I expect you will like this too
9-10  = movies and TV shows I really love!

V/H/S 85 was surprisingly good, because the last 3 movies were really meh. There were barely any horror or mystery element in those last 3 movies.

However, 85 has redeemed itself and looks like we might get more V/H/S because this one have really been good.

There are 6 stories, the 6th story is presented as interlude between every 2 stories and finally concludes itself as the 6th and final story. Also there are stories that are related or like a sequel. For example. story 1 and 3 are related.

I won't extend further as I might spoil the stories. But, I would say that this movie will bring back lost fans of this franchise as well as create new fans.

It's not that the movie or any of the stories are completely bad, it's just that they all could have used more time in the oven. Dreamkill was interesting, but TKNOGD was the biggest disappointment. There was so much potential, but it just fizzles out.

Same as the previous ones, this V/H/S is no different. The old-time setting gives some room for poor quality, execution, acting and storytelling; yet still manage to dissapoint. I think that from the entire saga, the first movie is the only one "decent", and that's only because when it came out, there weren't too many "multiple short found-footage films packed in one" movies. But now, is just plain dumb, boring and repetitive. You can't just slap some midly horror shorts back to back, without cohesion or connection in between, and just expect it to be good. Some of the stories had a bit of imagination, but again, because of execution, they didn't shine. I don't know, maybe i'm too old for this shit, but i was looking at the clock about 20 min in, so a complete failure. I give it a 4 because i feel generous, but in a honest true to the heart review, should be no higher than 2.

I'm no scientist and I know close to nothing about guns but at the lake, at that distance, wouldn't the bullets hit first and THEN you'd hear the bang from the gun?

3 Thoughts After Watching ‘V/H/S/85’:

1. The technology story was so stupid, and basically the worst piece of this collection.

2. I thought it was cool how they ended one tale, only to bring it back later in another. Didn’t see that coming — and that’s always nice.

3. One thing that I’ve grown to appreciate with this franchise is that — while there are some hits and maybe even more misses — I’ve noticed a decent amount of originality and out-of-the-box thinking with these stories. Was this chapter mind-blowing? No. But I didn’t feel like my time was wasted.

Unfortunately, it’s just `meh`. The acting is bad throughout, but the gore and effect works just fine. This is a comedy, and the final joke is its best - but it should have leaned even further into comedy, for it to be a fair movie. The fun stuff works, but when it tries to be more serious, it just ends up being boring and cringe-worthy. If you just want to watch a few dumb stories with ok gore, this works just fine though.

It was a pretty good anthology movie. They definitely gave it an 80's feel.
