The articles about how scary this movie is were certainly paid for. Very basic movie. Though Sandra Escacena is a far superior actress to your average scream queen.

Stylishly made horror is well-shot, but the story is generic and a little predictable. Apparently 'scaring the pants of UK viewers,' according to one British tabloid, but this is unlikely, unless they have never seen a horror movie before.

The Spanish word for "ouija" is "ouija", which could explain why there's no difference between this ouija board film and every other ouija bored film ever made. Fortunately, the (based on a true) story is well told, the directing is deft, and the lead -- 16-year-old Sandra Escacena -- was nominated for a Goya for Best New Actress. Fans of the genre will enjoy _Verónica_ if they're not too demanding.

@zillah Yes, indeed (if you accept William Fuld's widely accepted story and choose to ignore Charles Kennard (who manufactured the board before Fuld and claimed he learned the name "Ouija" from using the board and that it was an ancient Egyptian word meaning "good luck"). But I'm not sure why you've chosen to share this here. Uh, the Spanish word for 'ouija' is 'ouija', as I state, and used here simply as a device to introduce my review.

All around not a horrible movie, if you are looking to be scared and watch a lot of horror movies this will not scare you. It was good enough to keep my attention.

I do not understand what the hype is over this film? I found it very boring and it's nowhere near as scary as made out. The presence has no fear factor about it and quite a few horror cliches are in the movie.

Sorry but nothing special here.

Definitely overhyped. Was supposedly incredibly scary, but I mostly found it boring. Most of the movie is entirely uneventful.

"Verónica" is not a 5 stars quality production, but is definitely way better than I was initially expecting.

Despite some weird visual choices - that I assume were made due to a not-so-high budget - the movie has a great editing aspect, which certainly contributes to build the tension and the bothering feeling that grows as the story progresses.

Some of the more subtle sequences are (to me) the most appealing and the "children in danger" element really made a big difference. I probably wouldn't care so much about Verónica's integrity (or sanity) if she wasn't fully responsibe to basically raise those three children alone. Their mother's absence has hit me and "supernatural elements" aside, it's disturbing how that woman doesn't seem to give a f*ck about Verónica's mental state.

Overall, "Verónica" is a good piece. No genius work, of course, but a pretty decent narrative, visually okay, with great acting from everyone involved.

While Veronica wasn't terrible by any stretch and had some lovely moments, overall it was a bit slow and common. The ending picked up a little but it wasn't really anything special. I did enjoy the acting from the main character and her sisters and brother though.

Very well thought out and executed - great acting for such young people! Didn't rely on jump scares to be creepy!
