Movie is not at all bad, but I had higher hopes. War horse is not enough 'War' en too much 'Horse'

I guess you misunderstood the point. It's a horse in a war.

This is way too long and the beginning hour painfully slow. It pick up a little when the war starts but then it starts to feel like a bunch of small stories and I don't care for any of the characters. The war scenes are good but no where near the level of Saving Private Ryan, which is too be expected because this is for Disney. I've never been a huge fan of human/animal relationship movies and this one isn't changing my mind.

Classic old school film making at its best. Spielberg turned back the time and made a movie that is rarely made today. A small story taking place during an epic event. Microcosmos on a grand scale. People expecting more war and less horse should ask themselves what the hell they thought this movie would be about. It's about a horse and his owner during war time. It's about separation and finding back together during chaos. The horse is the protagonist. War is just the backdrop and setting. You want more war, watch Dunkirk, The Longest Day or A Bridge Too Far. This is about the friendship of a horse and his owner. Get that into your skull.

So so movie with a soap opera feel to it. English-speaking germans were not convincing... It would be a lot better if people spoke the language that they should speak.

I found it good but not as good as for the Season Awards. A sentimental approach from the creator of E.T. Phone Home (which means, very well made) with a very good ambience and a great music score.

I personally had a very hard time getting into it. It was so boring, I completely lost interest and got side tracked with my phone as my wife continued to watch it. It eventually picked up, but I was long clocked out by that time.

Starts like a good old school movie but towards the end it gets sappier and not at all realistic for an (anti)war movie.

Essentially a Benji movie, starring a horse, set in the trenches of World War I. Horse is raised by a loving master, horse overcomes the odds to save the family farm, horse is sold into service, horse endures a magical journey through the pages of history.

Deep down, there's clearly an emotional, colorful, ageless story just begging to be told, but not like this. Time and time again, director Steven Spielberg takes the easy route, opting to embrace the storybook-courageous, squishy human aspects of the animal itself, at the expense of his dry, boring, two-legged supporting cast. The spotlight shines for so long, so brightly upon the beast, that I half expected him to throw on a British uniform and bark out a dazzling rally cry to his fellow troops as the war draws to a close.

Sentimental to a fault, tame and regurgitated and downright boring, it's a real strikeout for the normally-reliable Spielberg. Better versions of the same story have been told in half the time, with a fraction of the budget.

Beautiful piece of cinema. When you think spielberg would not have anything new to bring on the subject of war, he creates a beautiful miraculous tale about a horse who changes people lifes, bring them hope, show them strenght, help them win the war and humanise the both sides. Well crafted, very touching with a great soundtrack, nice acting and gourgeus imagery, Spielberg proves again he is the master of crafting loveable and heartwarming tales doesn't matter in what shape! Loved it!
