In 1984, American heavy metal band Twisted Sister became a global sensation. For 30 years, they been synonymous with hairspray, women's clothing and tasteless album covers. Until now. Ten years ago, director Andrew Horn was granted access to the archives of Twisted Sister founder Jay French and in We are Twisted fucking Sister he explores the decade that preceded their breakthrough.

Not an overly well-made, but still interesting documentary about Twisted Sisters BEFORE their record deal with Atlantic. What's particularly interesting is the footage from their days in the New York club scene. An overall good story about hard work, determination and perseverance. Recommended if you have the slightest interest in Twisted Sister.

The story of this docu ends the moment TS came on my radar. I still remeber the first time I heard "We're not gonna take it" for the first time, saw the video, too. And it became my hymn moving forward. I later went back and discovered their older records and I still like to listen to all of them. Had no clue of their back story to be honest so this was very interesting for me to watch. Having played some music myself I always like to listen to the stories and from time to time I discover similarities, in the early times of bands, to what I experienced. As a music docu it is as good as they come. Of course much better if you like the band but I guess even if you like the genre of music this could be interesting.
