In Shirleyville, Vermont, during the sixties, sisters Merricat and Constance, along with their ailing uncle Julian, confined to a wheelchair, live isolated in a big mansion located on the hill overlooking the town, tormented by the memories of a family tragedy occurred six years ago. This movie is nowhere near as bad as people make it out to be, and I suspect that the ones who think it is are just impatient. Great film imo.

One of my favorite things about this film is that there is a bit of a discovery that takes place during the movie. As the great Patrice O'Neal once said, sometimes he wishes he knew how to watch a movie. It takes a while to figure out where this one was going - is there a mystery? Are there many mysteries? Something supernatural? Are they all delusional? I thought that the journey was fantastic and that the ending fit the movie. I really enjoyed it. I genuinely like all four of the core cast members of _We Have Always Lived in the Castle_ especially Daddario, and they're all good in this, and there are a couple of scenes here with genuine tension, but the reality is that by the end of movie, I'd spent half of the runtime straight-up bored.
