I thought this was very touching and endearing documentary of one my favorite Star Trek series. It really was just touching and truly made me feel like I was a part of a close knit community!

What a fantastic blast from the past, if only they could still write Star Trek as good as DS9 was.

I came upon this documentary by chance, and I'm so glad I decided to give it a look see. Rather than just doing a "talking heads" rehash of DS9, they got the main writers together to block out the first episode of a "new" season, continuing in real time from where the show ended, interspersed with recollections from the cast. The result is a captivating look at the "middle brother" of the Star Trek Universe, that never quite got the respect it deserved, yet, was arguably the most progressive and socially relevant series of the franchise. It was good to see all of the cast, and, I wish somehow they could "make it so". If not the imagined "new series", perhaps a mini one, or a feature length movie special.

The Next Generation what was ultimately made me a Star Trek fan but DS9 is my favorite of all the shows. And this documentary showed me again why that is the case. So many great memories that have come back.
Oh, and after seeing those small HD snippets I have to say we need - no, we want - we DEMAND the full show in HD. Sadly though I don't think it will ever happen.
Supplemental: It was already very emotional to see Aron Eisenberg who died recently. Adding to that was the fact the proposal for an eighth season had Nog killed.
Yesterday Rene Auberjonois passed away also. Very sad news.

I remember I bought DS9 on VHS tapes. As a trekkie I was loving the series. Some of my friends didn't like it. It was more like a soap. I said exactly I don't watch normal soap series but one in the Star Trek universe is awesome. And indeed. It is awesome. This documentary is very nice to watch. It's now again with the new Star Trek Discovery, not this not that. Enjoy it.... just enjoy it.

Good documentary. No boring talking heads, "we all love Star Trek" stuff. Worthwhile to watch. Best moment: when they contemplated on how DS9's serial story telling costed the show viewers in the 90s but how that became one of its greatest strengths in the streaming era. Never thought about that but it is probably true. Second best moment: The DS9 cast and story as seen by Afro-Americans. I honestly had no idea that certain aspects of this show meant so much to many in the Afro-American community (apart the obvious episodes dealing with racism).

_What We Left Behind: Looking Back at Star Trek: Deep Space Nine_ is a loving tribute to this groundbreaking sci-fi television series. Hosted by Ira Steven Behr, one of the show’s main writers/producers, the documentary discusses how the show was received, the struggles it faced, and its accomplishments. Additionally, Behr hosts a writers room with several of the show’s writers to breakdown what a possible season 8 premiere might look like, and the cast and crew share their memories and experiences of the show, as well as some of the fans. And thanks to a crowd funding campaign, all of the footage from the series has been converted to HD (something CBS has so far refused to do). However, there are parts of the film that feel staged, and it seems to conveniently avoid certain things about the show that doesn’t fit the narrative that Behr is trying to spin. Yet despite being a little self-serving, _What We Left Behind: Looking Back at Star Trek: Deep Space Nine_ is a wonderful celebration of this beloved show.

A gift for the fans, especially those of us who have long extolled just how pioneering the show was

What We Left Behind: Looking Back at Star Trek: Deep Space Nine is a partly fan-funded documentary directed by Ira Steven Behr and David Zappone. The documentary is built around three core components; the cast and crew looking back at their time on the show (often very emotionally), a writers' room mapping out the first episode of a hypothetical eighth season (which ends up sounding awesome), and everyone from military vets to clergy to TV producers to human rights campaigners to professors of history discussing just how ahead of its time the show really was. And thankfully, the documentary is absolutely superb, and something no DS9 fan can possibly miss.
