Pure shite about an apologist for facism who needed to have all his friends taken from him to realize he's an apologist for facism.

Amenábar, from Thesis, has a great narrative rhythm and in this film, with the great themes it deals with, it is strengthened. The moment in which Millán Astray and Carmen Polo try and save Unamuno's life is tremendous, and if it happened in reality, unheard of.

You know how you go to a political party but your partner keeps checking out other potential candidates and forgets about you? That's what _While at War_ is like.

_Mientras dure la guerra_ / _While at War_ is ostensibly about the rise of Franco in pre-WWII Spain, as seen through the eyes of intellectual / writer Miguel de Unamuno.

The problem is, the camera keeps getting drawn away from Unamuno for the note interesting figures of General Francisco Franco and his fanatical ally José Millán-Astray. If the director doesn't care enough to film the character his film is based on, why should the viewer? The short answer is, we don't.
