This was terrible. This has nothing to do w/ the fact that it's a remake of a beloved movie. It's awful as a stand-alone film. There isn't a single thing funny about this "comedy," and the story is pathetic. The least they could've done was to write an actual script instead of whatever this was supposed to be.

This is so corny. And the original has its corny moments too, but the slick direction and leads helped sell it. And I’m sorry to these folks, but none of them are a Snipes, Harrelson, or Perez. You know who was, though? Lance Reddick, the reason I watched this. This is one more reminder of how he elevated something just by being there, taken even cliche material and making it real and compelling. The two leads don’t got that in them. Especially Harlow.

And neither does the movie as a whole. The script is often painful and dated, with Kenya Barris bringing his most mediocre material not good enough for Black-ish. There are several gay panic jokes, in 2023. And the most surface level racial jokes and themes. And the need to make the characters all about basketball is such a lazy attempt to refresh the story when the basketball was just a vehicle in the original.

But for Lance Reddick? It’s still worth a watch.

A remake of a classic. Unnecessary, yet inevitable. My hopes were high, expectations low, and surprisingly a decent time. I still could have gone without it, and likely will only revisit the original, but this one will hit a new generation better than the first would.

Rating: 2.5/5 - 7/10 - Would Recommend

I knew it was going to be bad, I watched it anyway (my mistake)

I went into this with ZERO expectations, I knew it wasn't going to be a remake of the classic. I tried to view this as a stand alone (almost like a spin off/late sequel maybe?) but even then it was just bad. The story is nonexistent, the acting is awful, the comedy is woeful. It's a film that shouldn't have been made, and if they were doing this as a remake it deserved a better cast and a better script to at least make it watchable. I will hopefully forget about this one in a day or so.

it's watchable but thanks to the forgettable storyline, this doesn't land a slam dunk.

A few jokes and decent performances, otherwise fairly generic comedy remake
