This is definitely a “love it” or “hate it” movie. It helps to remember it is an adaptation of a stage play (expect narrative dialogue) and that John Patrick Shanley loves creating eccentric, stereotypical characters (MOONSTRUCK and JOE VERSUS THE VOLCANO). So, settle in for a bizarre ride through an over imagined Irish countryside. It is worth the creeping pace of the first 2/3rds of the movie to watch Emily Blunt and Jamie Dornan emotionally dismantle everything that stood in the way of their characters in the final scenes. I’m not sure lesser performers could have pulled it off. I give this film a 7 (bizarrely good) out of 10. [A Strange Romance]

The movie has been criticised for Irish stereotypes and dodgy accents. But the film’s biggest fault is the dialogue which is among the worst I have heard all year. “I think I’m a honeybee” ranks alongside the gobble gobble speech in Gigli. What the hell were these talented actors thinking when they agreed to sign onto this?
