_Winter Brothers_ (_Vinterbrødre_) doesn't want you to like it. It's moody, recalcitrant, and stand-offish. _Winter Brothers_ is a loner, unpleasant and cares nothing for you but has a soul as deep and as black as a coal mine. It has its stories to tell yet, sadly, while they feel dangerous, when they end you realise most stories finish with things that nearly happen but don't; stories that let you down easy and let you down full stop.

_Winter Brothers_ is a Danish film about two brothers who work in a mine. One brother is normal, well-adjusted, handsome while the other is a social oddity, an outcast who does nothing to merit that fate other than be himself. Then, one day, he sells bad moonshine to another miner…

The film, often filmed in the depths of the mine, recreates the scenes beautifully and the actors wear their roles like the mud that sticks to them, but unlike films in a similar vein (Norway's _Thelma_ or Hungary's _On Body and Soul_) here the film's anticlimax leaves the viewer feeling cheated and wanting more.

(P.S. Speaking of 'wanting more', this film has the glorious distinction of being the film with the most male frontal nudity I've seen in donkey's years.)
