I mostly enjoyed everything about it, but the one gripe I had was the excessive use of multiple camera angles and shot/reverse shot in the supposedly "live" haunted house segments. That might seem like a minor complaint, but for a movie that gets pretty much everything else right it seems like a pretty big mistake to make. That's not how they shot man on the street interviews in 1987 and it's not how they shoot man on the street interviews now!

So I guess this was V/H/S before V/H/S was V/H/S......

Such an interesting concept but I didn't enjoy it as much as I expected to. Though I appreciate the commitment in making it feel like a legit live tv broadcast from the 80s, their attention to detail, from the fuzzy VHS look to the fabricated commercials, if we strip away all those elements, this is just a below average found footage that isn't exactly frightening. Thankfully, the comedy aspect of this film is great. Some of the commercials are hilarious even though they're essentially fillers that don’t really contribute to the plot. Overall, it's a novel experience that's quite fun. It's a shame they don't put the same effort into the actual Halloween Special as they do in creating the whole aesthetic. Perhaps if you're going in for that kind of experience you won't be disappointed.

I must really be in the minority on this one but I thought this film was terrible. It’s almost half commercials that didn’t teleport me back to the 80’s or provide any form of entertainment. The plot/broadcast sections were so short between commercials that I couldn’t stay interested. This bored me out of my mind.
