During Practice for the 2015 Indy 500 James Hinchcliffe (Dancing With the Stars, ABC) suffered a horrific crash that nearly cost him his life. This film tells the story of the fateful day and the Holmatro Safety Team heroes who saved his life. It also goes behind the scenes to see how the entire Indycar operation applies science to proactively prevent injuries and save lives.

I've been following motorsports around the world since the early 80s and have seen many drivers die or get seriously injured. Safety wasn't always very high on everyones list. If I watch classic races today I am shocked at times how things have been handled. Back than no one lost a lot of sleep about it - me included. It was the norm. Here's to all the safety workers around the world. Without you there would be no racing possible.
